I wondered if anyone has read /tried any of his E-cises?
I got the 1998 version from the library - all the newer editions were on hold. I think this book and his ideas might really apply for many w/TOS. He explains how everything to do with the body is tied together and why alignment and muscle balance is so important. His E-cises are quite gentle. Most involve laying on the floor and passive basic motions or leaning/propping against a wall, counter or low block. I plan to start e-cises tomorrow as soon as I get my area rug out of storage and vacuumed. hmmm i think I'll get myself added to the hold list for the newer edition too. Just remembered he has a website too- some e-cises on it - http://www.egoscue.com/global/where_pain.php

I tried them a while ago. They do stretch some muscles that some of the typical exercises you get don't. They are worth trying.
I just did not find they were the miracle cure promised in the book. Maybe if you have ordinary average chronic pain that people get as they age and not a severe injury, they would be a complete cure. Still as I said, they are worth trying, you might find some tips that are helpful. |

hmmmm. Just did the E-cises for:
Elbow Pain Hand Pain Neck Pain Shoulder Pain Wrist Pain and I can't figure out what the excercises have to do with the pains. Now I haven't read any of Egoscue's books- but specifically, what do Glut Contractions and have to do with neck pain??

Hi thusday,
According to his book , it goes to the "whole " picture of if something is out of alignment up or down the chain of the the body it reacts as a whole and problems can show upstream or downstream. Seems to me it kind of ties in with Sharon Butler's fascia theory of how tightness may start in one place and spread throughout the body if not addressed and dealt with in a timely manner & properly. The E cises probably won't "cure" anyone with TOS, but might make a few of us feel better. There's one or 2 that I wouldn't even try though just because of the arm/angles & pressure

i just got this from the library also "back basics" by someone too lazy to look, lol. hope it helps, looks useful
butler's book was definitely too little too late for me. also i'm a stickler for details like what muscle group you're working, etc. |

Your post above was in 2008. Did you try the Egoscue exercises for any period of time? Did these help you in the long run? |

I kind of used a bit of this and a bit of that - I was getting all kinds of healing/health/bodywork books & videos from the library and soaking up as much as I could.
I used what worked for me and forgot the rest.. On the useful sticky post #1 - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post388-1.html I pretty much read all these sites a long time ago..and got the matching books from the library when possible.

LOL we have 2 dogs that shed, so I have to sweep & vacuum before doing any floor exercises. Guess it's one way to warm up...
