Default Hypertension and high pulse with Tos...

Do any of you have pre-hypertension or hypertension (high blood pressure) and also a very high pulse along with TOS and does TOS cause these?

Thanks!

Conster, I have hypertension, boderline and a rapid pulse. But, it has been diagx as part of my onging hypothyroid problems.

I am almost 52, also have a lot of stress in my life. My TOS is not diagx vascular, I am larger built with big boned collar bone and rib cage, My arms do have congestion which I feel from use, the blood flows more easily into my arms, then back out again. My rings have beeen resized two whole sizes.

Have you had recent blood work and testing for your BP. They do a non-stress test for women. I did not have it, but I think they use valium instead of excersize to induce stress?

Have work today, so am off, others will be in and have some thoughts.
Oh, don't rule TOS out, there is compression in the chest area, and I read something somewhere about chronic pain and hypotension, I will see if I can locate it tonight.

Hope you can resolve it,
Di

I have high BP and am on medication for it but it's due to no other reason than the fact that I've gained so much weight and a family history of high BP, high cholesterol, and heart disease. And the only way I could blame the BP on anything to do with my pain,etc. is the fact that as soon as I started taking Neurontin I seemed to gain about 35 lbs. overnight. Otherwise, I don't feel it has anything to do with my TOS or any of the other problems I'm dealing with.

I don't have BP problems - but did have fast pulse spells with dizziness for a brief time.

my post from may of 05

I had some very quick dizzy spells, more like just a flash of dizziness when they started.
I thought maybe blood sugar related but eating protein or other types of foods made no change. {not diabetic or anything either}
The spells started to last a bit longer then up to an hour at a time ending with a increased heart rate { just sitting, or strolling in a store}. When I was in a store it happened so used the BP tester to check -BP fine but Heart rate 120??

One morning I woke up with the fast heart rate- that was getting kinda scary, decided to go to urgent care or something as soon as daughter went to school.
Well the feeling had stopped by then but went to a store and checked the BP machine- BP was fine and heart rate was fine.

I saw a Naturopath office with a sign "free consult" so i decided to get checked out.
well she thought- as I was beginning to - thyroid, but went for tests and all is normal range - except cholesterol.
{ quit Lipitor in Feb 05}
And since seeing her and having the blood work done , those goofy dizzy spells are gone!
Naturopath decided just a very odd bug that had hit me at that time.

Jo,
This is just food for thought- I had to start seeing a cardiologist last year and have been through the full range of cardiac tests because along with my high BP and cholesterol, I also have mitral valve prolapse. I started having problems with my heart racing and palpitating last year and bloodwork showed that my thyroid was a little off so my PCP put me on Synthroid and that seemed to help for awhile. When I went back to the cardio in Oct., to go through those tests again, I happened to mention to him that for a couple of months my heart had been racing and palpitating again, really bad, and wondered if I needed my dosage of Synthroid changed. He told me he didn't think that was the problem and wanted to try me on a low dosage of Atenolol, a beta blocker, and that has made a huge difference because the symptoms have pretty much stopped. I'm not saying that's what could've been going on with you but if others happen to ever have these symptoms and all the tests come back normal, they might want to have it investigated further.

No, TOS does not cause hypertension. Completely unrelated. Now, can worrying about TOS and its issues cause you to be hypertensive? Yes. But TOS it is not part of how the body reacts to the blood vessels to make them hyper or hypotensive.

Hi Conster, Actually I have the opposite - very low BP and pulse. Also have Raynaud's (secondary to the TOS).

Default Blockage

Sometimes I wonder if the compression site, or how we are postuer wise is what makes us differ, even we differ to ourself on days.

For example, if the blood is compressed from going into the arm properly, is it cold, then if it goes in but is too much blood in there, swollen and hotter hands,

Positional typically, I usually have swollen hot hands, but if I am on the phone, typing with outstreched hands, driving, I get cold hands and sleepy feeling.

I have seen Drs that were posted in threads that were not covered under the Drs. Sticky List at the top of the thread page... it is difficult to find/monitor all threads for new doctors that need to be added to this list and I ask if you would send this info. directly to me via. a PM to DDayMBB,
when doing so I ask that you provide Drs, name, specialty, address, phone number and E-mail address if known thank you DDayMBB it would make it quicker and easier to get it up on the board quicker also one other request is to make sure the Dr or PT you want added is not already up on the board, unless there is a change of address, phone number etc. again please PM this info. to DDayMBB
