Default DiMarie,

I wanted to ask you a question. You are always the one that can find those good websites so I am thinking you might be able to help me with this.

Since I had those 3 inches of muscle taken out from under my arm my chest pain has gradually gotten better to where I haven't had to have any shots for quite some time.

This week I was told by my insurance that I couldn't have my Prevacid back and my Doc put me on Zantac and it caused me to have chest pain again. It was like I had long ago but I'm not sure it has anything to do with what the surgery was for because the Prevacid has been the only stomach med that helped me with this pain. I still have TOS on my left side because the muscle removed under my arm was to make some room also. I just took the easier surgery on this side. I have no doubt later on I will have to have the left side done though.

Long way around here but can TOS cause a problem in the left chest area that keeps an area irritated and meds possibly make it worse. The Drs. have done EGD's and xrays and cannot find anything going on in that left chest area. My Pharmacist did say you can have an ulcer in the left chest area though. What kind of test would it take to find it.

I know I am asking 2 different questions here but they are kind of tied in together.

I sure hope your daughter is doing better these days. I haven't been able to read all of the post here. I can't sit for long. I would like to know how she is doing these days.

Ada

Hi Ada,
I can pick my brain and read some sites.
This is off the top of my head.

It is easier if I remember what they did when De had so many organ problems.
There are two test they did for De to daigx her acid reflux problems, and terriable stomach pains, chest pain, und under the right rib pain.

One was a work up for a 24 hour PH. This was tried with a Bravo...you swallow the probe and it passes through your system gathering data. She could not be medicated to comfortably insert the probe into the stomach by the large GI tube. They used a tube in her nose for 24 hours and clicker to hit when she had pain. After about 10-12 hours she threw it up with tons of mucus. But they had some readings showing the acid levels.

She had an upper Gi, and also gall bladder test, for dump and stomach dump test.

A few things showed, EXTREME High PH, for reflux, terriably high (medication induced...located at the high amount of Oxycotin, and also then the methadone)

The methadone placed her in liver failure. She ahd no blood work while taking the medications to monitor the liver and sugar levels.

The narcotics of Oxycotin had her stomach and gall ballder in a slow dump, the bile in gall bladder backed up, she had a blockage of the part that went from the gall ballder to the Liver. The Bile duct maybe.

She was put on a duregesic patch and Raditine, which helped immmensly. She had beendown to 130 lbs from alost 200 lbs. The stomach problems she had are gone in the medication changes.
They were ready to take the gall bladder and do a hot dog wrap for the stomach for the reflux to keep the food down.

Then she was on Zyprexa, she gained huge weight and sugar went up, also again gastric pain. many medications she needs brand as the coating is thicker and more protective to the stomach. The generics seem to dissolve on the way down and cause a lot of distress.

So medications can cause pain, depending on what organ they are affecting what pain you have.

Also, how long ago was the surgery, could you have adhisions growing back to cause pain?
So I would have the test for gall baldder if you have one, stomach PH bravo test, Upper GI, Then consider the pain medications and which could be resluting in a contribution to problems if any.

NOW, another thought, there is a nerve, the intercoastal clavicular that comes from the armpit into the chest. I use to refer to my pain from it as feeling like a pager being on buzz and the sensation was in my chest....
Other can get a feeling like a heart attack, at times I got a shooting pain to my nipple area, But, if I press under my armpit, byt eh underside of the wing, to the back of my rib cage and come forward to the chest I have pain along the nerve line.

I will re-read you note to see if I am in the area and the complaints you have. IF not add whatever you think I need to get on track.

Glad to brain storm for you. Perhaps others have some thoghts too.
Hope you feel better Ada,
Di

Ada,
Is the ins wanting the change because of cost of Prevacid?

my dad had to try 3 other similar meds { 2 weeks at a time} to prove if he would have problems with those other brands.

His dr is writing a firm letter to the ins that they tried other brands and prevacid is the only one that will work for him.

This might be something that you will need to do.
