Default Marc took pics...LOl

hey,

clarification...my boobs are on either side of the roller and it is about four feet long. I think.....around there. Most exercise places will sell them. I got mine from my MT but she`s great......most exercise places tht sell weights will have them for sale.

so boobs on either side and roll on it on your ribs. side to side....no boob squishing...but I am a B cup at the best of times....LOL

hope that helps
love and hugs,
Vic

Victoria- do you rest your chin on the roller or do you hold your neck rigid and avoid the roller?

Victoria's foam roll mention & video link got me searching for more videos that might be good to look at.

I made a thread for the video links here -

Default wow....

thanks Jo for the links..there are a lot to go through but none really talk about the rib issue.....likely only a tos thing!!! I should post a video on you tube!!! LOL

As for the chin issue I sort of relax my neck forward...not holding it up as it'd take too much work and cause pain. I need my head off the roller to get the ribs in the right spot though. So sometimes I do hold my head up. I take breaks in between to relax the neck (just got a migraine...can't see so will hope this is enough for clarification.....)

love and hugs,
V

I was experimenting with my foam roll and another way that might work is to place the roll against a wall and lean onto it.
You have to find the right height and angle for your self.
For me it is about hip height and then I can lean straight into the roll by bending at the waist, it gives me a straight on push to the top rib.

I think anything that you can find that is comfortable to fit in the neck/shoulder area and push against would work.

You do have to be careful that you aren't getting too much pressure to close to the neck. {arteries}

when PTs did the top rib mob for me they used a straight down angle with me sitting, chiro only does a tweak to it now when needed.

So different angles of pressure might work better for each of us depending on our issues in that area.

Her TOS program that I got online is laid out in a logical step by step way.

Her site has quite a bit of info and some articles -
http://www.selfcare4rsi.com/rsi-articles.html

Her basic thing is to sway /swing your body side to side to get warmed up.

Another main point is to only stretch until you feel the hint of a sensation and stay at that point , then as you do it many times a day you should find that point is a little farther each time. It's the baby step theory.
Better to take many tiny baby stretch steps and accomplish something good - than a big "stretch" that sets you back.

She really feels that damaged tissues should not be forced into a stretch- is not a good thing and will not help heal us.

I had to read her book quite a few times for it all to sink in and each time I read it I learned something else.

[pain cons says that the nerve signals are being interfered with by my scalenes clamping down on the nerves.]

That's what i don't understand - why don't they get you some help - like some hands on trigger point or myofasical release sessions to see if the spasms can be stopped?? Have they tried to Rx some hands on therapy for you?
Of course it would still have to be someone with adv. skills & knowledge and experience, not necessarily TOS know how but they would need to listen to what you are telling them and adjust as needed.

When my chiro did the NIMMO stuff {kind of a mix of myofasical/TrP/massage} It really did make a big difference.
I still had limited arm stamina but most of the continuous discomfort was gone.
I found out a couple months later that my top ribs were raised and stuck {from the spasms in scalens/SCM} and he or I didn't realize it - until the adv PT guy decided to try dropping them down - that was heaven...

It might be something that has to be done in order - release the trps and spasms - then try the rib mobilization.

thanks jo.....i havee only just started seeing this new pain consultant and he has arranged physio with some high up, fancy physio who has dealt with probs like this and works out of a chronic pain clinic - i see her in april so will ask about the myofascial release etc

the pain cons has also suggested that if another round of physio doesnt work then i should have botox in my scalenes - however im still worried abotu this!
