Hi!
New to this forum...just wanted to share and see if anyone else has the same problem. Went the docs tonight with pain below left ribs. Sometimes I feel I am laying on a balloon if I lay on my front and often seems to 'catch' in certain positions. I was worried something under my ribs was swelling up. When I look in the mirror and breathe in, my ribs look very different. I seem to have more ribs on the left and they stick out more. The doc told me I have floating ribs on the left and they are twisted. He thought maybe I had hurt them in the past which I don't think I have. Maybe my job as a primary teacher has made them twist? Lots of bending and lifting - don't know. He said my job will make it worse and maybe I could change jobs!!! Then said we can look into getting ribs removed!! Scared me off really. Anyone else have this? Thanks x |

I also have bilateral TOS and occassionally rib pain, which is quite painful. It mostly occurs when lying down or in a car for long periods of time. Hope this helps. Sunny. |

Hello,
You could be hypermobile too so your ribs would be even more prone to "moving " around or twisting. We had one gal that had lower ribs going "out" quite often. She found a really good chiro/body worker/healer type person that was able to get it back in place most of the time for her. Have you considered finding a PT with advanced training or a chiropractor to do an evaluation on it for you?? I'd try that before surgery.

Hello, I had rib pain & swelling years ago on the left side. Around the 7th rib section. I went to the DR and they thought someone beat me up. I told them no, however they where no help.
I went to another doctor later and he found a lump and I had a CT done. It show wavy tissue but not much else. The swelling went down, however it hurts from time to time ? to anyone does one hand get cold and the other does not? |

Hello Sarah Jane, yes I get rib pain mainly in my back but do get stabbing like pain across the front of my ribs from time to time.
Hey Roybean, Yes my left hand gets colder more often and is worst than my right hand. I have compression of my artery and nerve when I lift my arms up too high or put them by my side. I had doppler studies done and the compression is worst on the left side. Hope that helps. Ozzy |

my ribs pain can mimic gall bladder and kidney pain, and also the rib configuration can mimic a lump in my breast. the rib that pops out of alignment makes a lump next to the sternum on the left. a chiro can fix it. sometimes it really is kidney pain but then i have to pee more often. i think when i have a gall bladder attack it actually pushes the ribs on the right around. i don't get them too much anymore due to being a vegetableholic.
my osteo says i have two ribs that stick to each other and they freeze up and stop moving (this is painful & feels like a gall bladder attack). he gave me an exercise to free it up that is also a yoga pose. if you are stiff just get as close as you can to this, be sure to always do both sides, even if only one side hurts. it's ok if you are not as limber as they are in this picture. Half Lord of the Fishes Pose http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/485 the thing i have to watch out for is i can have the same pains for multiple causes. just makes life more interesting. |
