Hi,
I am a 33 year lady. As part of the casual medical checkup, I did go for a chest xray.
The report says that I have a partial cervical rib in the right.

I however do not have any pain or difficulty because of this.
Is this the cause for concern?
What exactly is this state? Why does it happen?
Do I need to show to the doc?
What are the implications for future?

great question! I would have to say leave it be if u have no symptoms. It is senseless to do surgery or any other modality unless you have a problem.

I have bilateral cervical ribs and my left is there but causes no problems or pain. the right had caused me no pain or anything until I lifted one of my patients up from a toilet and wrecked the muscles and tendons. Hence resulting in full blown vascular and neurogenic TOS. So leave it be!!!

I agree, if you have no ongoing neck, arm, hand or shoulder pain you should be fine.

I am curious though.. can you hold your arms up for quite awhile without any problems?

Not that that proves anything either way, a small percentage of the general population will have arms go to sleep or tingle or go white until they bring the arms back down.

did you get to see the films/xray pictures?
I like to see mine, its interesting.
did they give a approximate on the size?
a tiny nub vs quarter size vs half size etc..

It is good to know so if anything starts happening you have that info already.
I would let your doc know just to be sure he has it noted. just in case.

I do not have any symptoms as of now.

Also the x-ray does not give indication on the size. It just says that Partial cervical rib seen.

I will leave it for now, however I have given the copy of the xray to the doc. Will check with him, in my next appointment.
