Default Canceled surgery from Dr. Sanders due to retirement

I had a scheduled surgery in late April with Dr. Sanders in Colorado to do a re surgery from a bad surgeon for my TOS... but he canceled the surgery due to a partial retirement.

I found Dr. Sanders on this forum based on many recommendations from you guys as well as his track record (He literally wrote the book on TOS). With him canceling my surgery last week for the end of the month I feel like I'm back at square one for finding a doctor. He's made 2 recommendations, but I'm just uneasy about the whole thing as I really want someone very familiar with TOS, has great track record, and comes highly recommended.

Can anyone make any recommendations and/or experiences with other doctors that have similar TOS surgery experience as Dr. Sanders (or at least really close)?

Thanks for your responses ahead of time... oh and traveling is not a problem for me.

oh what a let down, after deciding to have surgery and then the dr cancels.

So his recommendations didn't feel like a fit for you?
I don't think a dr of his standing would recommend someone not up to par.. but I don't know him at all.
did they study or train with him?

Thumbs up

I'm a big fan of Dr. Annest in Denver. His associate Dr. Nowak is also great! They handled my surgeries with expertise. When my rt lung decided to do a pleural effusion, both Dr's weren't alarmed. They had a cool bedside manner, provided me with top-notch specialists and PT while I was in-hospital. His staff even assisted me with instructions on how to get the hospital to write-off nearly ALL of my out-of-pocket expense.

Worth the air-fare, to have all that experience on my team!

Anne

Try Charles Brantigan. He was able to fix what another doctor messed up.

Surprised to hear that, i just spoke with him on the phone maybe 3 months ago? That surgery just sounds to brutal, as least from what the vascular at John Hopkins said, removing part of scalene and i think 1 rib?

Have you tried active release therapy?

I mean id only get that surgery if it is 100% last resort..

Gluck

Yeah Gluck, I hope everyone knows that a surgery of this magnitude is a last resort kinda thing.

I know exactly how you feel. My son was scheduled to see Dr Sanders on Monday April 13 and have surgery on April 14. I talked to Dr Sanders office on Friday at 4:30 and everything was a go then I got the call early Sat morning saying that he has is retiring and will not be doing the surgery. I was totally shocked!! I don't know what happened but I don't think it was good. I hope Dr. Sanders is okay but it sure has turned our world upside down. We were so hopeful about things and now we have to start all over. I don't know where to go either. It's been a pretty depressing weekend.

Good luck with everything.

It just seems odd, most docs when they retire just stop scheduling surgery/office visits, not cancel them.

There are a number of other docs in Denver that do TOS surgery. Maybe give them a call to see if they can fit you in so you wouldn't have to change a lot of travel plans. Maybe airlines can wavier fees since it was medical and not your fault it changed? See if Sanders office will at least give you a letter or fax one to the airlines asking to forgive any fees incurred.

It's worth a try.

Default I know how you feel.....

I also had surgery scheduled. Dr. Sanders already performed a pic minor release and a scalenectomy on one side. I'm going to use his referral in Denver.

sunnydee, can you provide his referral in Denver please. and does he do the pec-minor release to your knowledge? I too saw Dr. Sanders but he declined to operate on me, telling me to stick w/my local surgeon. who never get up to speed on the pec minor release before deciding not to do those any more.
