Hmmm, just something i thought i would share with you guys....my new physio has been talking to me about a rehabilitation programme called graded motor imagery -www.gradedmotorimagery.com
it mainly deals with those who have phantom limb syndromes but also in crps type conditions. she feels that people with chronic pain can become unable to quickly recognise (or not recognise at all) right or left limbs....depending on which side your pain is..... there is a demo section on here which calculates your ability to recognise right from left limbs....http://recognise.noigroup.com/recognise/ she has been talking to me lots about the way the brain files information and that the right side of my brain is overloaded with pain signals and is miss filing all over the place and making my pain worse....she wants me to do some work at home which includes using a mirror and doing hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder movements i find difficult whilst looking at the reflection of my left hand (with my right hand concealed behind the mirror). I have just started doing this for the last 2 weeks so im yet to see any differences but everything is worth trying, right! |

they (NOI Group of Austrailia) published a book called "Explain Pain" a year or so ago that explains this concept. it's very interesting; I'd be eager to hear of some positive results to do with TOS. I also read about this in another book recently published, The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science by N. Doidge. I saw a PT who mentioned a mirror box but I never requested to try it. Maybe it would be a good experiment.
