Hi, my dh and I are coming to the realization that our queen size bed is just not big enough to handle us. Not that we are that big or anything.LOL
Between all of the pillows I need to use to be comfortable, and his bad back and awkward sleeping, we need to go to a king. Does anyone have any suggestions about a specific type of mattress we should look at? I have read about tempurpedic etc. Any ideas? Tracy |

Tempurpedic foam can have a problem holding heat, no circulation. If that bothers you, avoid it!
I have heard good things about the sleep number bed, I also own stock in the company. I would easily go as far as saying I LOVE our Simmons Beautyrest. The kind with the independent coils that don't allow the vibration to travel across the bed- they really work. It makes the bed feel very solid and comfortable, plus helps you not be disturbed by your partner. We went w/o the pillowtop becasue we are both stomach sleepers (ok well, I was when we bought the bed...now I am a back sleeper) and because you can always add or change a pillowtop or featherbed or foam egg crate with a firm mattress, but if you buy the mattress that comes with a pillow top, you can't take it off. My BF just bought a Sealy Memory Foam Pillow Top (king size! ) which I find sooo comfortable. I sleep a lot better then I did before (which still is crappy but hey it is sleep!) I have just a 'regular' bed at home and make do with LOTS of pillows (5 at last count)

Hi Tracy, of course mattresses are a pretty personal decision in terms of what you think is most comfortable but if it helps any, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Tempurpedic. I've had it for about four years and hate to spend a night away from it. These days they do pillow top models, etc, as well, but I like my plain old Classic Tempurpedic kind without all that.
I first got my tempurpedic before I was diagnosed with TOS and thought it might help with my symptoms. My arms kept falling asleep at night and, silly girl, I thought it might be because of my mattress!! Of course it wasn't, but I loved the mattress just the same. Especially after surgery when I had to get used to sleeping on my back. Even now I sleep about 75% on my back. The reason I like the Tempuerpedic for this is that it provides the proper support for our spine so that when I sleep on my back my butt and shoulders kind of sink in to the memory foam just the right amount, keeping everything aligned. Even the small amount of time I turn on my sides, it's the same thing - the hips and shoulders kind of sink in and the rest of the spine stays aligned. It's just the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Now, in a dream world where money is no object (well, you never know - Santa might be reading this - hee hee) I would recommend you look at another bed Tempurpedic makes. They make an adjustable foundation/frame that lets you raise or lower the head or knees/foot of the bed (like a hospital bed or Craftmatic I guess) - it is super quiet and super, super comfortable. It even comes the with a built- in massage! You can get it where the two sides are split down the middle so that each side can raise and lower their side independently. I'm not sure though how you would get the two separated sides to seem "seamless" - a thick matress topper? hmm..not sure. I tried it out in the store this week and........complete Heaven Wish I'd had one at home this week so i wouldn't be sleeping on the couch with this sinus infctions & cough!!!!! Good Luck Nolina |

My husband bought me an adjustable bed shortly after my accident...I had some shoulder/clavicular injuries, also, and sleeping flat was (and still is) nearly impossible for me. After a few weeks in a recliner, we ended up getting a single size adjustable bed, and he still sleeps in our old queen. I wish I had gotten the tempurpedic mattress, though...the saleslady told me she had one and it was very hot to sleep on, so I got a regular mattress. After 4 years of sleeping only on my good side, my good shoulder couldn't take it anymore and I ended up buying a memory foam mattress pad, which is okay but not great.
We're hoping to get another twin adjustable bed to push together into a king...I know, Jolina, I've tried to figure out how to keep a "seam" smooth, but I haven't figured it out yet! I think the next bed, though, will have a memory foam mattress for me, and my husband can have my current bed. I'll just have to sleep with a fan on! Just my experiences...as another poster said, everyone is different, and what works for me might not work for you...hope you find something that helps you sleep better! |

Hubby and I are saving money to buy a Bob-O-Pedic which is a generic temperpedic that is offered by a NorthEastern furniture store (bobs discount furniture).
The temperpedic is oer $2000 for a queen - the bobs version is $800 for a queen. I have some friends in the area that did the 30 day free temperpedic trial, then did a trial of the bobs version, and they didn't notice any difference (just the price).... so we are saving money for the bobs version Maybe other furniture stores in other parts of the US have their own version of a generic temperpedic like bob does?

Hi Trix,
Hubby and I recently bit the bullet and bought the two twin adjustable tempurpedics. With both of us having health issues, Esp. spinal, we felt like we had to get the best type of bed that suited our needs and this filled the bill! I like the warmth of the foam, and got the classic mattress rather than the pillow top because I have trouble staying warm, especially my feet. The adjustable head and feet are completely silent, and the vibrating bed has a " rolling" massage that lulls you to sleep. Nolina and I are on the same page!! My vote is for tempurpedic.
