I assume they give written instructions when they release him??
that would be a good thing to get a clear answer on before you leave and also exactly what is OK and not OK to do. but i think in general some movement is OK but if it does cause discomfort rest a bit more before trying it - then try a little - nothing extreme -just smooth easy motions to allow blood and fluids to move and refresh etc but that just my general thoughts.

How's your husband doing now that he is out of the hospital?
I hope the storm hasn't created chaos for you two. My mom was able to get to Denver yesterday morning after a layover over night in Salt Lake. I hope your hubby is doing ok post-op pain wise now that it's been almost one week after surgery. How's he tolerating moving the affected arm? That will be the deciding point about how much to do right now. You do not want him to be in alot of pain. Slow and easy is the key. I hope your Christmas was quiet and beautiful. How nice you two are together on Christmas with much more hope for 2007! Karen aka "Cat" |

Hi Karen,
Ray's doing quite well for one week out. Having a number of pain free moments throughout the day which is great, but we all know the real test is how he's doing 6 months from now. Although Dr. B told us that adhesions aren't going to grow in one week, I'm still gently prodding him to do a few sets of glides throughout the day. I don't want him to see the PT on Wednesday without having done anything. I tell you, although it's expensive and a pain in the butt to be in Colorado over the holidays, it's good in that there's no work or hobbies or distractions for him that might prompt him to do anything but recover. Our Christmas was low key. We had lunch at a Safeway deli just to get a break from the hotel. People walked by us with sympathetic looks in their eyes. I guess eating cold chicken wings and baked beans does look sort of sad at Christmas. But heck, it tasted good. Erin |
