Hi, everyone.
A little history....I'm raising my nephew who's ten. He's been with me for eight years and was recently diagnosed with adhd and tourettes. The tourettes has complicated medication for adhd so he's medication free for now. Just having the diagnoses has helped him and us, and he's doing so well! he has mostly vocal tics, with picking and larger complex tics. I plan to read alot and hope to gain any info our experience anyone would like too share. Until next time... |

Hi
I'll post a bit more later as just got back from work but I would highly recommend a book by Sheila Rogers of ACN/Latitudes that deals with ways to treat Tourette Syndrome naturally. http://www.latitudes.org/book.html An excellent website to learn more about TS is http://www.tourettesyndrome.net and although the Tourette Syndrome Association tends to be more med focussed, they do have lots of very helpful info, especially to help kids with TS in the education system, for which btw, TS is classified a disability under the ADA http://www.tsa-usa.org hth a bit for now

Thank you so much for info!
We hope to continue med free for my boy. I can't believe the difference in him with just knowledge of diagnoses, informing school, etc. he's on 504 at school and has a fantastic teacher that's really helped his confidence and frustration. His grades are great! Handwriting is that of a different child. he's top reader of entire grade, not only class. So much good going on. This isn't the same child of a year ago and, as of this point, isn't a child in need of meds...that's from teacher as well. She has gobs of experience and said she thought he was on meds he's doing so well! Hope to talk more and thanks again! |

Hi forevernana,
Just wanted to say "hello". I had been forgetting to check here on our TS forum lately. Your nephew sounds as if he's doing really well. Having a knowledgeable and understanding teacher is a huge, huge plus. You're doing a great job yourself by the sound of it. |
