It probably has been 4-5 years I have been here. Your post made me think....and remember my daughter in theatre, who has a severe case of TS. my daughter was quite a gifted singer and actress. She performed as the lead many times. I sweat blood and tears when she first performed. My dtr. has one of those situations where she doesn't tic when acting on stage or singing. But I will tell you that being a vocalist and thespian can be very, very competitive. And it is a very stressful and disheartening when your child does not get a leading role, especially when you think he/she deserves it. My dtr. graduated in 2006. She just graduated from college. She eventually dropped out of being a voice major and theatre because she simply got tired of the let downs and competition. With that in mind, who knows why the director chooses one over the other. In looking back, I learned that one child got the part because the parent offered a week at the beach in their vacation home; the girl got the part because she goes to their church; my dtr. didn't get the part because she was too fat. It is a dog eat dog world in theatre. So help him learn to shrug it off. I would say, that the person got the part because they "looked" the part, not because they were necessarily the best. The important thing is that they keep trying, if their heart so desires.
