Hello,
I am 14 year old kid with Tourettes. I have a palilalia, tics, and occasional echolalia. I also have OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as well. Sometimes, it's as if the two work together. My tourettes might start a cycle of tics, but it's my OCD that continues it. While I do have TS-only symptoms and OCD-only symptoms, there are times when I get an obsessive thought about doing a tic or repeating a word. Luckily for me, the two do not effect my life too much so I am able to function normally. Is there anyone that has similar Symptoms? -Twitchy |

Hi Twitchy and welcome
yes, the OCD that is frequently comorbid with TS is often different from classic OCD in that it frequently "blends" with TS symptoms so that it is hard to know when it is a tic or an OCD manifesting! My son had very similar merging of his tics and OCD as you describe He has been on a specialised nutritional program for 6 years now (just turned 17) and these have really helped him with both the tics and the OCD.

Hi,
What kid of nutritional program is it? I might be interested in trying it out for myself. |

I think you are a very wise 14 yr old! You understand yourself very well.
But you know, your parents should be supervising you here, and I am sure you will share anything and clear it with them, before trying anything that might appeal to you.

Thank you the compliment, I have been known as very articulate person.
Thank you for your concern. My parents are fully aware of how I utilize my internet time. I wouldn't say anything that could harm me in any way. I am a very independent person and although I am still young, I know when to be cautious and how to be open in a safe way. Just to reassure anyone who may have concerns, I have showed my parents the different blogs and forums that I post in and what excatly I post. Also, It was not clear to me exactly what you might have been getting at, but I have also sent my mother an e-mail about the supplements that I had talked about Chemar. She is fully aware that I am asking about these supplements and she herself is interested in possibly trying out a more natural approach to my Tourettes vs. pharmaceutical medication. I would NEVER try any medication without my parents' consent and supervision. Once again, thank you for interest in my safety. |

Hi Twitchy,
I just wanted to say that I think it's great that your interested in your own health and not only that, but also trying natural rather than pharmaceutical. I'm also very glad that you're involving your parents in this. Keep up the great work! I'm a young adult now, but have been active on the TS forums since the age of 12. Carolyn |

Hi carolyn_lsc,
I just recently began posting here on NeuroTalk. I didn't used to like to talk about my problems publicly, but I found a couple of sites that had some pretty open people and I figure I'd join in on the discussions. Although I only recently started posting here, I have been blogging on tons of other sites since I too was 12. I am now a very open person and don't mind sharing things with people as much. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it. |
