Mark's comment on progesterone caused me to do some research on it as a possible treatment. So, I found this article that I thought ya'll would want to read. I have spoken with my doctor about this and he is going to try me on it and see what happens. He also said that most of the research has been done on acute brain injuries but, he added that it could possibly help chronic pcs as well. After some blood tests, he also discovered that I am deficient in testosterone and growth hormone, which he is putting me on as well. I also have an mri scheduled and a contrast cat scan of my spinal canal to see if I have a CSF leak. He is investigating this because he believes that I either destroyed my pituitary gland, my pituitary gland has a tumor on it or that I have a CSF leak somewhere. He said that it is not uncommon for someone with a leak to have their pituitary sit on the base of their skull and therefore, disrupt proper functioning. I'll keep you guys informed and hopefully ya'll can use this information to treat yourselves.

My comment about progesterone was about using it during the first few hours after injury. It has neuro-protective functions. Most of the damage from a concussion happens after the impact, not at impact. So, protection from deterioration is beneficial, especially if the Progesterone is administered withing a few hours, similar to stroke treatment.

The other hormones are needed in proper balance for the brain to function correctly.

mhr4, I hope your doc has prescribe Testosterone cream. Oral absorption can be hit and miss. If you get a T cream, you need to apply it to an area where hair does not grow. The lower inside of the bicept/tricept can be good. I put it on a no-hair area of my butt. The Women's International Pharmacy compounded form is made with a safflower oil base that absorbs quickly and is most affordable. Insurance will rarely cover compounded meds, especially hormones, so price can be an issue.

WIP charges $30 for a one month supply of 10% T at 1cc per day. My local compounding pharmacy gets $75 for the same amount. They us a much more expensive compounding base but the WIP formula works great.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, the doc is starting me out on testosterone cream made from a compounding pharmacy. He said that he would only give me the injections if the cream didn't work to raise my levels. And I will definitely look into the WIP testosterone as it is getting pretty costly to do.
