Well said, Mark. Very well said.
As a later in life MTBI/closed head injury/PCS, also, I can appreciate the wisdom you've shared here.

Its been about 2 and a half months of dizziness and headaches. I am not finally starting to feel a bit better. I saw a massage specialist who was able to come to my house and help me out. He concentrated mostly on my spine and concluded that my vertebrae was out of place!!! has anyone else dealt w issues like this???

Hello, Jswim89 - Would you mind to clarify a little something for me, please? Above, you typed: "I am not finally starting to feel a bit better." Perhaps did you mean to type "I am now starting to feel a bit better"? It would mean a cheer of "yay!" is in order here for you, if the latter!

BTW - I have so many vertebrae out of alignment from the auto collision ... 12-15? And, I'm unsurprised. Given that you were kicked, etc, it's not surprising. As Mark in Idaho and several other longtime members have suggested here, check for an upper cervical specialist chiropractor @ nucca.com.
Hoping that you are *now* feeling better! - Theta

That darn spell checker. Even when I type 'not' instead of 'now,' it fails to find my error. Maybe my spell checker has PCS too.

I can start a word and the finished word will likely only have the first one or two letters correct. The rest of the word will be spelled correct if I was typing a "different" word. i.e. at>and mind>mine

Then there are the letters in the wrong order. can>cna why>hwy

There is a saying: my right hand does not know what my left hand is doing.

This is so true for me. I even have a missing finger to prove it. My right hand was holding the power saw, my left hand got in the way. Now, my pinky is extra short. No, it did not hurt. But it sure scared my military buddy. He can be on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan but cut your finger off and he goes nuts.

Hey, we need a thread with posts about all of the comical things we have done with our PCS.

Good idea, Mark! I like that. This would be the right audience, i.e. to "get it". Early on w/ my TBI, I attempted to make-light/ humorous with certain non-TBI/PCS persons (who obviously 'didn't get it') about the things I was doing when in the acute phase of all this, simple little things.

"And after 3 days of trying to *just make coffee* (after the collision), only to find that I'd put the ground coffee into my coffee mug, put sugar into the coffee carafe, and poured boiling water through the coffee filter (with nothing in it) and later (or hours later) whenever I'd *ding* remember what I had been doing before I "lost track"--- I'd go back to the coffeemaking, proceed to pour cream into my coffeemug (oblivious to the darkroast ground coffee misplaced in the cup) --- and warm it in the microwave --- wander back to all of this whenever I'd *ding* recall "Oh. Making coffee. Yes."

--->Pull the coffeemug from the microwave, maybe see or not see the mess therein --- and attempt to "pour coffee" from the carafe, and it's but at best by now warm water only. Oh my! People cannot *believe* this stuff if they've never experienced it themselves!

But, yikes, Mark! You cut off the end of your little finger and say it didn't hurt! [Do you have also perhaps a diminished capability to perceive pain? a higher threshold for pain?] A buddy in my TBI support group has that + diminished capacity to realize if he is either overheated or in hypothermia. Is that the hypothalamus that's affected?

Here's to the "LaughIn" thread for PCS! Grins, Theta

I baked a shoe. I have no idea where the roast went, but the dogs looked stangely happy...

We were watching a news broadcast...there was a random guy in a kangaroo costume in the crowd. My daughter is quiet for a moment then says, "Did the rest of you just see a kangaroo?"

I spend a lot of time starting to put refrigerated things in the pantry and vise-versa. My wife has learned to not be surprised when she finds something in an odd location.

My strangest quirk is when I am using something on an extension cord, like a power drill. If I need to switch to another tool, I will have to disconnect the power drill from the extension cord and plug the other tool onto the extension cord.

The problem is, I will disconnect the power drill and drop the end of the extension cord. I realize this when the two male plugs ends of the power drill and the other tool will not fit together. I can be aware of this and try to not do it and do it anyway.

Cordless tool are so much easier to use, even if I cut fingers off with them.

I call these times, brain farts.

When I cut my finger off, honestly, it did not hurt. As my buddy was driving me to the hospital, he was running red lights, etc. At the ER, he asked if he should call my wife. I said to tell her I cut the end of my little finger off.

He gets my wife on the phone and says, "I'm at the ER with Mark. He cut the tip of his little finger off."
She replied " I'm not surprised."

It was Memorial Day weekend. The ER doc just cleaned my finger and put a dressing on it. I had to come back the next Wed for a surgeon to close it up. Almost $4000 to fix a finger.

She knows that if I am going to the ER, it is because I cut or broke some body part, never illness.

My damaged brain is very sensitive to chemicals. I once got a code three ambulance ride to the ER when I inhaled some solvent from ABS/PVS glue.

Well, glad to know I'm in good company when I: put things in odd places, set out to get something from the fridge and find myself in the pantry, walk away from sinks with water running, lose my thought mid-sentence, can't recall common words at times and instead stare blankly at the person I'm addressing, forget what I'm doing in the middle of a task, wander away, and don't recall until I find the evidence later...and it goes on and on...oh boy, I think you all understand! Without this forum I would think I was nuts. Thanks for the laughs, I needed it!

I'll second that, BeccaP!
And, thinking in retrospect now: Good grief, I cannot believe that I managed to survive without a sense of humor for over a year plus, post-injury! So-o good to find ya'all here.
