Phyx,
The equine therapy centers often are charity funded. They focus on children because this is where they see the most improvement/change in lives. Find the nearest center and inquire. Put your hunt for therapy ahead of insurance/finance concerns. Once you find what you need, then you can work at the funding, etc. Does your state have a brain injury trust fund? Trust funds are designed to pick up the needs that are not met by main stream insurance programs. You can google brain injury trust fund and your state. Do some calling. You will find people who want to help you. You just need to ask.

Hi Mark,
Not sure if NC has a trust fund for brain injury. I googled it and came up with the brain injury association (which I knew about). Don't know if that's the same. With the trust fund thing it comes up more for other states though. I also looked for the equine thing around my area as well. I'm amazed how many there are. Never really thought of NC as a horse type of state. I was thinking that maybe I could find a way to volunteer somewhere that there are animals if I can't work out a way to pay for the horse thing. Never know, it's an idea. |

Phyxius - It sounds like you've a good idea there --- to offer to volunteer some regular chunk of your time weekly to an equine therapy center. Start perhaps with making some phone calls around to the various centers & talk with them. You might be surprised what may open to you.
Sincerely, Theta Z.

Hi,
If you can volunteer, and you do like animals try some of the smaller grass roots animal organizations. I have worked in rescue and have had this suggestion from Mark as well. Try to see if you can even just sit in a room with a dog and read a book or flip through magazines. I had some special needs students come in to do programs with animals and we gave them basic body language signals and it helped both the students and the dogs. Sometimes just being in the same room with no contact can help settle the soul and give great energy. Then work up to playing in a yard, observing etc. I have been a dog trainer for years and did work with abused and injured dogs. Since my PCS, my knack for working with them has been "off", but, it seems to have strengthened with fearful cats. Go figure. Good luck! |
