Anybody who wants me to e-mail them the Word doc file of the TBI Survival Guide, send me your email address by Private Message. It is a 3.4 mb file so make sure your yahoo or gmail has room for such a large attachment.

Hi Grady Lady,
I know that you posted this a while ago, but I am a new member, and I've been reading through some of the posts. I wanted to let you know that I am/was a teacher. I had my accident in February, and I expected to be back to work in a week or two. I NEVER expected a concussion to cause so many problems. I kept on expecting to be better, but my body did not cooperate. There was a period of time when I was getting week long migraines, and I thought that I would go out of my mind! Thank goodness I was referred to a cranial sacral therapist, and I think that has helped me the most. Unfortunately, I still have lots of symptoms. The headaches got better, but I still have them. Probably the most troubling symptom for me is the fatigue. It is difficult to plan to do anything. A lot of the time I feel like I have the flu - my whole body aches. It is difficult to get up in the morning, and during the day I often have to take a short nap. However, I am better than I was three months ago. I can read for longer periods of time. At the beginning, I could not read without getting a headache. The headaches are usually milder. But, like you, I expected to go back to work in August - at least part-time. And I have not been able to. I was so disappointed. I do speak to the substitute. She is a new teacher. I helped her a lot in the beginning of the year. I tried to volunteer in order to try to build up my stamina, but I was told that I cannot come into school because of liability issues. So that was pretty depressing. I still talk to the substitute and help her with her planning when I can. But, bottom line, at this point, I don't know when/whether I will be able to go back to teaching. And, of course, only a teacher would understand about lesson plans. And the fact that 7 hour days are NEVER 7 hour days. How are you doing? I just wanted to let you know that there are teachers who have PCS. I don't know any except for you, but I am sure that there must be others. It is very difficult for people to understand what you are going through unless they have been there. I know that I certainly would not have understood this until it happened to me. Good luck. I hope that you are doing well. |
