Default new meds ..can they make you extremely tired??

I am now on paxil cr (lowest dose) and klonopin (lowest dose .125) at night...I am SOOOOO exhausted until about 2pm the next day. I don't really sleep during the day ...I'm like Goldilocks going from couch to chair to lounge chair all day!

I've been on these now for 10 days....was hoping to see some improvement. I might not take the klonopin tonight unless I wake up and can't get back to sleep

What is the Klonopin prescribed for?

It can cause miserable sleepiness. I tried using caffeine to wake up until my doc read me the riot act. He also switched me to Neurontin instead of the Klonopin. Neurontin does not leave me sleepy during the day. It has a much shorter half-life. It clears your system faster.

There are also greater risks of problems from long term use of benzo's such as Klonopin (clonazepam in generic form) Neurontin (gabapentin) is much safe for long term use. I have been taking it for 10 years. Paxil for 12 years.

I take the Neurontin for two reasons. First to help or let my body relax so I can sleep. It helps stop my body/leg twitching. It also helps my mind settle down. I can rarely get to sleep without it.

I take Paxil too. 60 mgs each morning. Not the CR brand. Just generic Paxil. The Paxil causes sleepiness but nothing compared to the Klonopin. After a month or so, the generic paxil is just as good as the CR. The CR stands for Continual Release. It is supposed to stabilize the amount in your system. After some time, the amount in your system stabilizes, even with the non-CR brand. Paroxetine (generic paxil) is much cheaper if you have to pay for your meds.

My doctor had me try taking it in the morning and at night. The idea was to see which left me sleepier during the day. This works with the non-CR brand. The CR brand will be much the same blood level all day.

I am surprised your doctor tried two meds at the same time. This makes it difficult to determine what each med is doing.

i am not taking the klonopin anymore...didn't last night and felt a bit better this morning. the klonopin was so i wouldn't wake with anxiety attacks..which i was.

my mind never settles down....never did. I pretty much always had some trouble sleeping..but not like this.

btw -- watched some tv last night...and so far not suffering (although I only laid around allllll day long).

The Paxil may be enough for your needs right now. It can help with the anxiety but usually it takes a strong dose.

I had long ago thought you might benefit from something like Paxil but was hesitant to suggest it since it is a serious drug. I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

My best to you.

thanks Mark...and yes...I'm starting to see the improvement already. I think a good portion of my problem is anxiety and depression ... I went to a party today and survived...(i'm putting in a post on it)

maybe finally starting to see some improvement.
