Default PCS - new person here

Hi I'm Megan and i'm new to this.

2.5 years ago i hit my head on a flat screen tv that was mounted on the wall. Don't know how it happened. Pretty much stood up off the ground in full force and hitting the corner of it on the back of my head.

Didnt do anything about for like 2 weeks b/c i didnt think anything of it. I started feeling dizzy and my eyes were like slow. Pretty much felt like a had a really good alcohol buzz.

I first got cat scan, which showed nothing wrong.

Then went to the doctor and got referred to a neurrologist and put me on some drugs but they made me so tired so i stopped taking them.

I went to a chiropractor and took xrays of my head and neck. Nothing was wrong. Nothing helped.

Then i went back to my doctor and got referred to therapy. I went to a physical therapist, speech therapist, and a psyciatrist 3 times a week for like 3 monthes.

By this time i was diagnosed with PCS and more symptoms accured. My mood changed, very tired, i got angery about the stupidest things, memory loss, personity changed, super dizzy, messed up eyes, confussion, child-like behavior, anxiety problems, reading problems, dull pain from the area i hit my head. Tons of things changed, i'm no the same person anymore.

I graduated from there and few monthes later i still wasnt doing good, so i went in to get a MRI, which showed nothing wrong.

I saw a new neurrologist and he did nothing for me. Told me nothing is wrong it will heal on its own.

Then i was on my own a for a while, but now i doing bad again. I went to the doctor the other day and got referred back to therapy, but they rejected me. I'm gonna go to a balance center soon. Hopefully that will help.

The things that i notice that make things worse are exercising, stress, and big changes in temperature.

I'm at the end of my rope. I've been suffering with this for so long now and no one can give me any help or suggestions, I felt like a pile of crap after talking to them. I could really use some support from others who get what i'm going thru. Seems like no one gets it.

As of today: i'm still super dizzy, eyes are still messed up, angery yet, very tired. And is it werid the part of my head is still sensitive to the touch where i hit it? Werid.

Megan, I hope you can find some comfort here just in knowing you are not the only one going through this. I'm sure it's been a long 2 1/2 years.

There isn't much the doctors can do other than try to treat some of the symptoms. I'm 16 months with PCS. It has destroyed my business and made daily living difficult for me. I have recently had to apply for disability (at my doctor's recommendation).

Megan,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry for you reason for being here.

As roadrunner said, there is not much the doctors can do. There are things that you can do. The injured brain is usually polluted with the toxins and by-products of the injury cascade. brain injury is not a one time event. It is a cascade of events as the brain tries to protect itself from the malfunctioning damaged brain cells.

One thing that is a good start (but not a cure) is nutrition. Getting good B vitamins plus Omega 3's and all of the anti-oxidants is a worthwhile effort. There are numerous posts with more details. Just search this forum for "vitamin".

There is an excellent resource in a free online book by Dr Glen Johnson at www.tbiguide.com His TBI Survival Guide helps you understand your symptoms. It should be down loaded and printed out.

Once you understand your symptoms, your anxiety level can be reduced thus freeing your brain from he anxiety burden that slows recovery.

It is sad but true that most of us will never be the same person again. But, we can still have a full life once we learn to live with and work-around our limitations.

It is truly difficult to find a professional who understands Post Concussion Syndrome and will listen to us. The problem is with the medical industry, not the patient.

Are you able to work and complete the basics functions of life (ADL's, Activities for Daily Living)?

What symptoms are causing you the most struggle?

There are many compassionate and understanding people here who can help with suggestions they learned from their own struggles.

My best to you.

Megan : I am 2 years and 1 month into this PCS nightmare. I can relate to your dizziness, vision issues and fatigue. For me this plus nausea, facial pain etc., which keeps me disabled. My dizziness is like weak legs and gets worse in stores (imbalance and faint like feeling), talking to people (even in the phone) and any stimulation makes all these symptoms worse.

Dizziness is a very tough one for doctors and so far I had no help from them. Is your dizziness is spinning sensation, weak legs, near fainting etc.,?

I am not a person who I used to be and I don't think I ever will be. I do get angry at myself and now I live in isolation since I cannot talk to people without getting symptoms. I get relief only when I sleep.

Thank you all for your support.

I am currently working right now, but it sucks really bad. Last summer i was laid off and that was when i felt my best, like things were getting back to normal. I need to work less hours, but we are too busy to take off work.

My worse symptom is the dizziness. I'm always dizzy to the point of getting head spins. My head feels like 100lbs, like i could just drop it on my desk. I'm always tired too. Like this weekend i slept in until 10:30 Sat. and 10 on Sunday, and i took a 2.5 hr nap that afternoon and i am just dragging today.

My eyes have always been a problem for me from the start. Sensitive to light and dark too. It's really werid trying to drive at night sometimes. And they are just slow at focusing.

My worst symptom also dizziness (and nausea). You said that right about how your head feels. When I tell my Neurologist my head feels heavy immediately they put it under headache!

My eyes are always tired and my vision is weird. Not double vision, blurry vision etc., and regular optometrists/eye doctors cannot find anything. Some had success with Vision Therapy. I went to one Developmental Optometrist and did Light Therapy and other therapies for a while. No success. My rehab doctor who knows about MTBI/PCS and believes my main symptoms are from eye and he recommended another therapist. I have an appointment next month to see what she has to say. None of these therapies are insurance covered.

I rested for more than a year and even now I only work from home part time. For me rest doesn't do much. If rest helps for you I think you should seriously consider that.
