Ok long story short I got two sports concussion a little less then two months apart. I was knocked out in both of them. I am in my 4th month. I am so much better but still dealing with these damn headaches.
Sometimes it's just pain or it may be pain and presure. Sometimes I have migraine type of pain. My doc has me on sometype of anti-depressent that has been aproved for headache and migraine pain. Some days I have a constent headache that last for two or three days. Some days they are off and on. And then I may be headache free for 4 or 5 days then bam the headaches come back. NOW, for the last week or so I have been getting intense pains in my head like nothing I have ever experienced. I only get them on the right side of my head. These pains are way worse then any type of migraine pain I have had. The weird thing is the pain only last from seconds to at the most 3 or 4 minutes. I find these pains very scary and they almost bring me to my knees. What in the world is going on? Anybody else had this? I am out of work so I can not afford going to the doctor. |

I have experienced focal head aches like you describe. As you say, they go away. Mine did too. I never did anything about them either.
The important thing to consider is a TIA, Transient Ischemic Attack. There is a national stroke line you can try calling. I hear it advertised on the radio frequently. Try www.stroke.org. Maybe it will have some information that will help. My best to you.

Absolutely! I get them too! I call them my Icepick headaches. I think there is a thread about others who get them. I have to stop what im doing, close my eyes, and just pray they go away quickly. Very deblitating when they come on. I had at least 3 or 4 last night at work (im an ICU nurse), they are worse when i get stressed or worried about my patient decompensating. of course they come on at home too and sometimes im not doing anything. But i do notice they are worse with any stress. I take fiorinal for my breakthrough headaches and it has a small dose of a muscle relaxer for the vessels in your brain to relax them, also has aspirin and a lil bit of caffeine. I swear by it. Im also on an antidepressant offlabel for migraine use- nortryptilne 50mg a day. Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear about folks' pain- at least some good advice was given.
My pain was bad yesterday- 100 F weather, accidentally nodded "yes", and the slight bump from Sat. When I lied down to sleep it was horrible (as expected). Metal spike through the brain & roof of the mouth. A miracle I fell asleep. Maybe melatonin really helps as well. |

I have days where the "icepick" headaches are really intense and I have to adjust my meds accordingly and try to limit my activities....they did concern me a great deal early on, but I have found that mine eventually pass. Makes me appreciate the less intense pcs symptoms!!!
Hope that things improve for you soon |
