I have finally been able to go walking every day (I'm currently on day 9 in a row). I'm still going slowly, and am increasing my walking time by about 5 mins per week - I'm currently up to 20 mins. It doesn't sound like much, but I'm really happy about this. I feel like I might be able to handle more, but I'm taking things one step at a time and attempting to stay on a sustainable path.
I feel a bit like the tortoise in the tortoise + the hare fable. Slow and steady wins the race (I hope)! |

I don't run any longer but am able to get on my bike trainer for about an hour a day. I have to keep my heart rate below 140 bpm otherwise PCS symptoms kick in the next day in the form of headache, mental fog, and fatigue.
Same comes with anything that involves using my abs. I had major surgery for diverticulitis where I had colon resection. I can't do sit ups, swim, bowl, golf, or even blow thru a straw too hard otherwise I kick in a severe headache. Yoga is okay provided I don't work the core. Not being able to run is way tough as I was an endurance runner and can understand those who miss being active. Find what you can do and be patient. |
