Hello: I've been checked out by a top concussion specialist a couple of times, but am wondering whether I should be getting checked for a possible neck injury as well. I have been improving overall, but it has been over four months and I thought it might make sense to rule out any neck injuries, as my head injury did involve vertical force upwards into a ceiling beam.

I occasionally notice a bit of a clicking or even slightly crunchy sound when I move my head - it isn't painful or anything, and doesn't really bother me (it's pretty subtle), but I don't think I had this before the injury.

Also, who is the best person to evaluate a possible neck injury - an orthopedic MD? Osteopathic doctor? Chiropractor? And how do you find someone competent and reliable?

I saw a chiropractor first, though I'm a bit cautious about them since quality and reliability seems to vary widely. I've been pretty happy with mine.

Another option is to see if there is a back and neck pain clinic near you, or try to find a physiatrist to consult. Physiatrists are rehab specialists.

You could also consult a physical therapist, but I would try to find someone who specializes in back and neck stuff.
