Well its been a while since i posted and been over 4 years now with PCS and TBI all caused by a head on car collision -
anyway - my Dr. like many of you put me on an exercise rehab regime, as well as a physiotherapist chiropractor for deep tissue massage intended to alleviate the pain of exercise as well as tear the scar tissue. The goal was to get me back into a position where i could work as wanted by the insurance company After going at it for over a year , my headaches worsened, my injuries hurt more all leading to a collapse at the chiros office - they had to take me by ambulance to the ER and it was touch and go - the perfect storm well that was in 4 months ago and I just starting to come out of the fog - I'm with a new Doctor now who is taking a more holistic approach - getting all the things we can control in order - BP, Heart rate, cholesterol etc- with the sole goal of making me feel better. period! I just wanted you all to know - that the physical approach is not always the best and darn near ended me all the best |

I'm sorry you had such a tough time. Sounds awful. I have to say there were times when the gradual exercise plan was helping me tremendously and times when I just had to stop and rest for weeks with no activity. I know both benefited me. It was very easy to overdo the exercise though and the resting period after was very long to make up for the overdone feeling. Best of luck to you.

goalie,
What is your new doctor doing to lower or control your cholesterol? The brain needs cholesterol. Some efforts to reduce it have been shown by research to slow brain function.

Statins for cholesterol have been shown to prevent remyelination
of nerve fibers. Some statins like Zocor are very lipophilic and enter the brain and affect it there too. http://www.spacedoc.com/statins_multiple_sclerosis This study specifically targets MS damage, because at one time it was thought that statins would HELP MS but now it appears it is the opposite. Other statins vary in how much they enter the brain. But most of them do to some extent. Zocor is just much more potent in this regard. Avoiding statins when your goal is for brain REPAIR therefore appears to be prudent. Please discuss this with your doctor before discontinuing any statin you may be using. This article lists statins and their lipophilic potential (i.e. crossing the blood brain barrier and affecting nerves and muscle) http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/295/23/2721.2.extract Quote:

Thanks for your responses - the idea he has is making my software the best that it can be - and then taking a different approach - more holistic and maybe acupuncture -
what he has me on is a natural ingredient found in krill oil - no statins - so it should effect my brain - hopefully |

You have lost me. At most it sounds like he is just getting you started at a minimal level of natural health. An injured brain needs a healthier dose.

What do you suggest - Mark?
I'm open to suggestions with him and I'm seeing a new neurologist soon -- what should I ask/ tell them? after so many years and false starts I'm at a loss for ideas to get better too - |
