I flew 4 weeks post concussion to las Vegas for my 30th birthday....not very smart on my part. Also flew about 4 months post concussion from west coast to east coast to DisneyWorld to visit my friend and her 2 year old. I have to admit, i was very aware of my limitations and my dizziness was a huge concern along with headaches when i went. The first attempt at a ride was the Carousel.....major dizziness immediately, so i realized quickly any rides going in a circle were gonna be a problem, so stayed off of those. Its a Small World ride was easy to tolerate, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

I went to Orlando in September so it was 90 degrees, and it was exhausting. I wasnt used to being on my feet for 8-9 hours and no ability to lie down was tough on me. We got back to the hotel room and i was asleep at 745pm. I made sure i always had my medication with me, always had multiple bottle of water ready and waiting, and wore sunglasses and ear plugs when necessary.

As for the flight....it wasnt too bad. THe altitude didnt bother me so much....but the crowds in the airport and stress of going through security was a little bothersome. Definetly bring earplugs for the noise, a good neck pillow so you dont get a headache from your neck being crooked to one side, and an eye mask for the plane so you can sleep for a good portion of the flight.

Wishing you the best of luck. Just take care of yourself and be aware of your bodies need to rest and reset when it tells you.

MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability.
Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again!
I also began taking Healing Touch classes in November 2011 and completed 5 Levels of Healing Touch Certificate Program that included a 1 year mentorship to become a Healing Touch International Practitioner in June 2013. I am so pleased to offer this wonderful healing therapy to my patients, friends, and clients.

TMQ,

Be prepared to walk away from any environment where you feel like you are beginning to over-do it. I could never go near "It's a Small World." Too many speakers and echos of the same music. Pirates of the Caribbean can be just as problematic.

Are you going to Anaheim (Disneyland) or Orlando (Disney World) WDW in Orlando is much more spacious than Anaheim so the trip should be easier.

I hope to take my grand kids to Disneyland (Anaheim) some day. I remember going with my dad and older brother in the late 1950's. It had only been opened a couple years then. Drove from San Jose to Anaheim non-stop before the 101 highway was even built, and in a Volkswagen Bug. What a long hot ride.

Have fun.

My best to you.

TMQ,
Everyone is different. It might be a good idea to get yourself into an environment that has some of the same issues before you take the trip.

For example, if you are not comfortable shopping at the grocery store on a croweded day, you probably aren't ready for Disney. You simply won't enjoy it.

I just started swimming and I found that I am okay on a weekday, but on a Saturday when there are a lot of screaming kids I am pretty useless and afterwards I am stressed. You might try going to a local pool on a weekend and see how you do. Or try visiting a small carnival.

If you decide to go to the amusement park and you are immediately uncomfortable just leave. Go to the beach. Do something enjoyable instead. Vacations can be stressful. You can minimize the stress by planning ahead and making contingency plans well in advance.

Have fun.
