Default MRI shows Pineal Cyst?

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anybody with PCS-like symptoms has had an MRI taken that showed the presence of a pineal cyst?

I had two concussions within a six-month period, and have been experiencing headaches, nausea, dizziness, weakness, memory problems and light sensitivity for about 1.5 years now.

It took this long to have an MRI done since the car accident that caused the first concussion, and it shows a 9mm pineal cyst.

When I looked up pineal cysts online, there seems to be little research, but it does consistently state that having one over 5mm can cause headaches and all of the other symptoms I am experiencing.

Just wondering if anyone is in a similar boat, what your doc/neuro has told you and whether the cyst was related to your head trauma at all?

Now I'm not sure whether my symptoms are as a result of PCS, the cyst, or a combination of the two.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you!

Hi there,

Sorry this is a really delayed reply but just came across the post now, perhaps others will find it useful as well. I had a cyst discovered on my pineal gland as well. The specialist (neurosurgeron) I was seeing advised it was not causing my post-concussion symptoms and that it is not uncommon to find cysts on the pineal gland as an incidental finding. He did recommend to get another scan done 1 year after the first MRI and then a third scan 2 years after the second; just to ensure it did not grow in size. I have completed all three of these scans now and thank God there have been no issues.

I'm not sure how large mine was so I cannot comment on size, but based on the reading I did and what my physician advised me, it seems pineal gland cysts usually do not cause problems.
