Default Imitrex for headaches

Just got a trial of imitrex for my headaches. If I take it when I feel a headache coming on, it seems to prevent it from getting worse. Does make me a little sleepy right after I take it, though.

This is the first non-narcotic med I've had that has helped my headache pain when I actually have a headache coming on. The amitriptyline has helped decrease the frequency but I still do get them pretty regularly.

I guess it is typically used for migraines, so if you have migraine-like headaches, can't hurt to ask your doctor about it.

Anyway, it works for me! Just thought I'd mention it in case it might help someone else.

Good to know. I've got a referral to the headache clinic at the UW Hospital, and we'll most likely be trying some meds. I tried Gabapentin last fall but didn't tolerate the side effects well, though it did help with the headaches.
