Hey, when I got my brain injury, I also broke my nose, which was my primary concern at the time, not realising what I'd actually done to myself. Anyway, I was told that later this year, I would need surgery to correct parts of the inside of my nose which causing me problems with breathing when exercising and when I have a cold.
However, I'm not sure if surgery with my brain injury is wise or safe, I'll be having the surgery after the one year anniversary of my injury, so in theory, I could be better by then. Although, I fear it is unlikely. Does anyone know of any harm having a general anaesthetic could have on a brain injury?

A general anesthetic can cause a chemo-brain type of condition that can prolong recovery. It is an individual situation. It warrants a good talk with the anesthesiologist.

Some of the gases are tougher to deal with. The IV anesthetics don't have as much problem as the gases.

Bring your concern up with your PCP and/or neurologist to see what they think about it.

I think it's better to do it now then later though... it might help you breathe which will provide your brain with more oxygen which will help it to heal faster.

I could direct you to a forum on a different web site that discussed the severity of some members with chemo-brain from anesthesia but the important information will come from asking serious questions of the anesthesiologist.

Thanks for your advice! I have to wait until the end of this year for insurance reasons, but hopefully it will help me I'll make a note to remind myself that I need to talk to them about my injury.
