Hello,
I'm new here. I was in an auto accident on January 17th, 2012. I was hit on my drivers side. I hit the left part of my head on the side of the car and my neck took a bit of trauma. Other injuries as well. I seemed fine the first two to three weeks and noticed I was extremely depressed, bad nightmares, wakingg in the morning with headaches. Dizziness, confusion and feeling very strange. About two weeks ago my dr said it was a concussion. He referred me to a physiotherapist who \i was two days ago and he jerked me around and a bit and yesterday i started to feel like i went backwards in my recovery. I have problems remembering to spell, often forget what I just said, some headaches. The physio therapist wants me to see a Dizziness person/ physiotherapist who charges $100.00 /session. Is this helpful? Thanks, for the help. |

shallie,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your accident and injury. Your delayed symptoms sound quite normal for many with concussions. I am confused by what you said your physio therapist did? I am guessing this is the same as a physical therapist. The neck injuries that can accompany a concussion and car accident can be complex. Many find that a gentler therapy is better. A balance specialist may be able to help but it would be hard to tell until a balance work-up is done. In some cases, the balance (vestibular ?) therapist just teaches you how to do movement exercises to desensitize your vestibular system. You may benefit from the Epley maneuver or a similar therapy to reposition the crystals that can get jarred out of position in the inner ear. If this is the case, the remedy can be quite good. I hope the neck therapy is followed by some icing at home. Inflammation can cause as much trouble as the out of whack bones and muscle spasms. I would not be surprised if you have some torn or stressed muscles that need time to heal. So, the $100 for vestibular assessment and treatment is probably worthwhile. Don't you have vehicle insurance with medical coverage to help with this cost? Most auto policies have a $5000 occupant medical coverage regardless of fault. Check this out. btw, I finally figured out your PCS dyslexia <He referred me to a physiotherapist who \i "was" two days ago> When I switched the spelling around to "saw", it makes total sense. We can these 'brain farts' and laugh at them. Welcome to the club of PCS misfits. My best to you.
