Hey guys, im about to cut my hair tommorow, iv done it only once after injury and it was very very painful....
Once my mom touched my head with hair cutting machine, i literally screamed from pain...i was praying when she will be done, so yeah tommorow is the day ill do it again. Im doing it because i want new haircut, and i want to see how my skin looks... I got a bad feeling it will hurt, cause when i touch the place of contusion injury it still hurts.. Any personal experience, advice, some cheering phrase? Or maybe someone know why its like that. I really cant wait when i will see my head without hair.. |

I had a haircut two months in and OUCH was it painful. The lady at the Hair Cuttery was digging the razor into my scalp...not good! After that experience I let it get pretty shaggy up until a month ago when it was just plain uncomfortable. This time I went to a different Hair Cuttery and told the lady that I had a concussion recently and that my head was very sensitive. I got my usual buzz cut and she was very gentle asking me if she was hurting me or not along the way. No problems! She got a big tip and I'll be going back to her before I look like Cousin It again. So I suggest your tell the barber/salonist(is that what they're called??) what the deal is and ask for the gentle treatment.

Did a face plant on the side walk. Sustained concussions from this(embarassed) before, but first time getting PCS. Been alcohol-free since this happened, found Jesus, and have done a personal and spiritual 180. |

ziggo,
I would think that a simple explanation of your head sensitivity should help greatly. I have a large mole on my scalp. Back when I was getting short hair cuts, I needed to tell the barber or they would nick it with the clippers. They always appreciated my instruction. They will even recognize me and ask me to point it out when I return for another haircut. If you can work your own hands over your head to determine how you respond to touch, you can explain how you can tolerate touch to your head. The barber will appreciate your instructions because they do not want to cause pain. The more you can state this objectively rather than with a winy 'woe is me' attitude, the more likely the person will be very supportive of your needs. You may need to be aware that vibrating clippers will have a different and more severe risk of discomfort. I hope you have a good experience. My best to you. Stating the facts rather than emotional pleas has usually worked well for me.

Yes, this straightforward, no-nonsense approach has worked well for me too. But some stylists/barbers get it more than others do. I lucked out in finding my last hairstylist, who likes to work slowly, patiently, meditatively, almost entirely with scissors, no abrupt movements, hair-tugging, head-rubbing, etc (and she does a great job). Her salon is quiet and pleasant.
