I've got an appointment for a neuropsych assessment next month. I'm kinda nervous about it...I'm very sensitive to stimulation, I become a complete space cadet after filling out simple forms and I can hardly handle a grocery store without getting put into space for a couple days.

Should I ask for 2 half days instead of one full?

Besides finding out what areas I'm struggling in, what's the purpose?

Do you want the NeuroPsych Assessment to diagnose your struggles?

Or just show that if you do things in small bits that you can functional normally?

The idea of an NPA is to cause you to be symptomatic. So, expect it to cause you to struggle, then it will show your problems.

If you car is not working correctly, do you want it to run fine when you are paying for a diagnostic analysis or do you want it to stop running so they can figure out what is wrong?

Just do what you can and show them how riddled with anxiety you are.

Once your diagnosed with an anxiety disorder...you become the boy who cried wolf. I can't get any help from anyone without my problems being blamed on anxiety. Every time I go to the ER, they see that I've been there for panic attacks...so they blame my heart jumping out of my chest (when it was an allergic reaction to a blood pressure med) on anxiety. I've become disoriented to the point I didn't know what year it was...and had to have someone with me to tell them I couldn't talk. But, since I have GAD...its anxiety. If I post on here and say there is something moving in my temple...it gets blamed on anxiety.

Geez, what's next? I'm going to become disoriented and not know who I am, who I live with or who my son is...and they are going to say its psychological. Then I'll have psychosomatic on my record (if I don't already) and really get no help.

But yeah, I want my struggles to be on paper so I can show Social Security. If I have to appeal...it would be easier for a lawyer to win my case with these results.

The NPA will show how well your memory works, how fast you brain processes tasks, and a whole variety of other functions. They will be able to see past your anxiety with most of the tests.
