What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺).

Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky!

Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance.

Default From My Journey experience

At my 9month mark of "unknown" diagnosis:I had wrote in my journal on my iphone that, I took my child to a cartoon movie one evening. The whole time in the movie I felt like I was seeing tracers, blur or double vision, psychedelia, nausea, depression and felt REALLY WEIRD!I had just got back from a vacation in the caribbean so I thought maybe I had jet lag. I spent the whole movie googling material on Malaria!I thought I had Malaria as well then I decided jet lag lol.

I don't remember anything after that 9month mark.I was on bed rest for 5month's and some genius MD put me on 4 different muscle relaxers at the same time!!!(That I had to wheam myself off)I went to a physical therapist for myofascial massages at this time. The physical therapist was scared to do anything with me because this "unknown" diagnosis stage and my speech was impaired BADLY!I was only able to move around for MAYBE a hour at a time.My head felt like it was about to blow up from my ears, jaw, eyes, everything!

After getting a diagnosis I have improved greatly. In the last 5 months I have shown improvement by having the fighter attitude, self help, right medical aid, medical direction, change of lifestyle, correct eating, Reading my body, correct vitamins and medication.

I hope things start turning around for you and you find some relief soon. But most important you can get better in time.I learned patience is the BIGGEST reward in this syndrome. And the concussion and post concussion have to run the course(that's how I look at it)You will get better.
