As GlassHead has pointed out - the recently diagnosed thyroid issue was probably caused by the concussion you sustained.
I've read about this issue... I think a lot of information can be found if you google, "brain injury thyroid", "brain injury pituitary gland", etc. I am sorry to say that it probably means your journey back to wellness will be arduous.
