Default Mist8012 & Joy6

Mist8012 - I have undergone 2 of these test - first was about 5hours and 2nd was 8 hours

Joy - I showed deficits in the same areas - but I have not been offered any therapies just wait it out - talk it out with a psycologist - I did see one but they seemed to take the apporach with me that I just need to accept what happened forget about it and move on - as if this will alleviate all of the symptoms and deficits.

What should I expect? I feel like I have to somehow prove my diagnosis is true since most ppl I've seen isn't sure of it.

My hubby is coming with me so someone can remember what's been said. My memory is so poor and my coordination is bad. I keep falling over due to dizziness.

Hubby had to catch me this morning and then said, "You don't look well"

What did you do on the first visit? I was told on the phone that they can help me with my stressful appt's with my employer. Don't know what they can do about that.

I had a neuropsychological assessment done a couple of months ago. I took about 5 hours for me to complete. For some people it takes less time and others need more time.

At first you talk to the neuropsychologist about what you’re going through and what you hope to learn from the testing. Then you start the testing process.

There’s nothing you can do to really “prepare” yourself for the tests. Some are simple. Some are more difficult.

The tests are administered to determine what kinds of brain function deficits you have. You get two scores, a verbal and nonverbal one. In my case my nonverbal scores were good, but I had some serious problems with the verbal tasks.

It’s good that you have your husband going with you. The testing process is long and mentally stressful. It will wear you out.

In my case, I was happy that my PCP suggested that I should have the assessment done. I had gone 4 decades not knowing what was really wrong with me. I had some doctors thinking I was a hypochondriac and crazy because in many instances I couldn’t medically “prove” there were things wrong with me. This kind of testing provided the answers I was searching for.

Hopefully it will do the same for you. Good luck!

Amy

Thanks Amy,

I'm so scared! I was told I'd wait for months but once diagnosed with PTSD they put a rush on it and I was called with an appointment for Tuesday.

I'm glad hubby is coming but feel bad that he had to lose hours to come. We can really use the money now. I just hope the results will support me in an illness rather then a crazy person.

I researched my Neurologist and I'm confident he'll help as he has a lot of experience with TBI.

I'll keep you posted. Did they share the results with you right away?

Kelly.

I wish I could help relieve some of the anxiety you feel because I was pretty stressed too.

All I can really say is do the best you can do. I won't help your situation if you don't give a good effort.

In my case I was interested in both brain function deficits and an autism diagnosis. She was able to tell me right away about the autism diagnosis because I did so well on the nonverbal testing.

I think I blew her away a bit because she had this amazed look on her face at the end when she was talking about my results. I had several results in the gifted range, but had others in the borderline range. Of course she didn't know right away what the numbers were, just a generalized idea.

It took me about 3 weeks to get my results back.

How did your eval testing go?

Did you receive the results yet and did they support your head injury?

Jinga,

Oh bollocks! (can I say that?)

All he did was reflex, ROM and palpitations No cognitive testing and I'm getting worse by the day and haven't received report yet.

I'm having aching muscles throughout my body with muscle spasms, tender spots that feel like knots. My arms hurt the most right now and my left hand ached with burning and pins and needles and it swelled so bad I couldn't get my ring off. My fingers got so cold they turned blue.

One doc says no way it's a pinched nerve or a herniated/bulging disc or related to my neck as the pain was in my forearm and My Massage therapist disagrees.

I hope to see my regular doc tomorrow and hopefully my x ray results will be in. I'm also considering discussing short term disability as my work is getting impatient with me. I told her about my arm and she gave me a frustrated sigh like I was making this up.

Sorry for the long post but that's my update

Mist,

What discussion have you had with your work about protecting you from further risk?

You can not afford another assault ever let alone in the near future.

Your eval sounds like mine. Same ROM, reflex, gait and such. He said there was nothing wrong with me that resulted from my back, neck and head injury.

You really need a full NeuroPsych Assessment or at least a psych eval with MMSE to identify PTSD and cognitive issues.

My work printed me out a copy of modified duties saying I will have a phone with me for safety. But I know full well when I get there no one will have a phone for me. What about everyone else?

I requested for the phones to be reinstated for everyone not just me.

Neuro put in referrals for therapist for PTSD I haven't heard anything yet and an ENT specialist for my balance and vertigo problems. I see them in September.

I see my doc today and I'm supposed to have him fill out a return to work restrictions sheet even though I'm not ready to return yet.

The chronic pain is so bad I'm not sure if I'll ever be ready. I'm not sure if it's Myofascial or not but I'll mention it. Can that be determined on a general X ray?
