No i never had a MRICSpine prior....never had any symptoms of disk problems before the inuries. I say injuries becuase the original head injury was in October last year, but I fell in December (due to the medicine making me lightheaded) and hit my head again.
The WC Doc thinks the tingling/weak & heavy feeling is due to the Beta Blocker i am currently on for the Migraines. I am trying to ignore it and work through it in Therapy, but it doesn't go away.

I would say yes. It is helpful to have another person there to provide additional details to the doctor and to give you support. He can give information about your history, his view of the event causing you to get an eval, and to remind you about any specific recommendations following the evaluation. You may be puzzled about the reason for some questions and examination tasks and he should be able to help you understand the results. All the best, Peter.

Peter,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Are you struggling with a brain injury? Please introduce yourself and let us know how this great group can help you. btw, Joy's question was posted on May 4th. She has probably already had her NPA. The date of the post is in the upper left by the screen name. Most do not use their real whole name. A moderator can change your screen name if you choose to have it changed to something else. My best to you.

Received my written results today from Neuropsych.....in a nutshell was told it's been 7 months and I should not be experiencing my symptoms this long.
Scored high on the tests sesitive to TBI and suboptimal effort on others (like I would purposly not try on the easy ones?) Said my cognitive deficits were most likely not caused by the injury....noted slow processing but told me to start driving again, and begin return to work. Amazing all the inaccuracies in his report. Wish I even understood it all. This was from a Workman's Comp Neuropsycologist who also works for my employer.....ya think I got a fair assessment? Tests administerd: Test of premorbid functioning (TOPF) and Word Choice from Advanced clinical Solutions. Logical Mmemory, Symbol Span, and Visual Reproduction from the Wechsler Memory scale (4th edition). WAIS-IV Digit Span, Letter number Sequencing, Arithmetic, Symbol search, Similarities, Block design, Information, Coding, and Matrix reasoning Subsets. Conners Continual Performance test (2nd Edition) Controlled Oral Word Assoc. test Trailmaking Test A & B Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (64 card version) OOPs...didn't see these tests on the next page, these were given too. Grooved pegboard test (MMPI-2-RF) California Verbal Learning test-2nd edition-alternate form (VSVT) Boston Naming Test Benton Judgment of Line Orientation test

This one statement <was told it's been 7 months and I should not be experiencing my symptoms this long. >shows the NP has a bias against prolonged symptoms from a brain injury.
If you want to send me your scales in a PM or email, I can check them against what I have learned about NPA's used for concussion symptoms. Maybe we can get together enough understanding to attack his biased findings. Your Trail Making Test times can be a quick indicator. The results are often misinterpreted. Also, the differences between your high scores and low scores can be very informative.

Headstrong,
I am a little surprised by your post and then not very surprised at all since this is WC. They are flippin unbelievable! Did you have a conversation with the NP like I did at the end of the assessment? Did he give you any clues about what your difficulties are, how it related to the accident, and the help you should be receiving? Eventhough I do not have the physical report back yet, my NP (who was "independent") discussed my injury and issues at a decent length, and led me to believe he was going to make appropriate recommendations. The whole purpose of the nuero eval is to create a causal relationship between the injury and your symptoms. If they do not link it together then that gives WC a pass to deny your claim. I actually saw the paperwork that WC sent the NP and the questions are: determine if their is a causal relationship? can they return to full duty or modified duty? The NP and I talked about me returning to work and when that may be possible. If you had an NP that didn't converse with you about anything than they were definitely just trying to appease WC. Also, do you have an atty and are they going to file an appeal? |

Mark,
I will PM you the info...might be tomorrow though. Yes, I def feel there is a bias. I went in thinking I was going to receive an objective assessment of my cognitive fucntioning. Joy6. My husband was in for the initial interview and he was able to tell the doctor the differences he he has noticed. There was no discussion after testing, no recommendations etc. This "diagnosis" or lack of, goes against the other docs, therapist, neurologist etc. I know it is not accurate and I intend to fight it. He kept saying we have to "close the loop". When I asked him what that meant byt hat.. he siad you had your neuropsyche eval and now its time to get back to work.

Oh another question i wanted to ask. Do most reports list number values? My report is in paragraph form and lists mildly, moderately, deficient etc.
There are only a couple of places where an actual number of tries or time completed is listed. This is the first Neuropsych eval I have ever had so I'm not sure what it should look like.

Sorry to hear this for you - I am too going for a second testing - this time ordered by WC so I am thinkin I will be in a similar situation. When I had my initial test, it took three weeks to get results and from what I am hearing here in the recent post, most of you get results the same day. Is that even possible.
Were you feeling your symptoms were average , worse or better when you were tested. I have some better days and some worse days from the middle and hope my testing is on the worse day. If the doc says you are still having processing speed issues, what are they attributing this too if not the head injury?
