YEsterday, I decided to call the office of the physiatrist I was referred to. I wanted to ensure I was on the cancellation list... I wasn't! So I asked to be put on, and the receptionist indicated she might be able to slide me in for thursday... she had already offered the appointment to someone else, but if they had not contacted her by the next (now this) morning, the appointment was mine. I called at 11, and she was giving them till noon... well, she just called and I got the appointment! I am utterly thrilled.
I am also kind of glad that I am off the progesterone so they can see the full effects of the concussion... ME at my worst rather than at my best I guess you could say. I'm also up for a very part time job teaching at a college in Toronto. It's only about three hours a week, teaching photography and photoshop... I would LOVE to have this job, so prayers to help with this would really be appreciated... It doesn't start till september too, so I still have recovery time as well!

When resting, symptoms are low. With exertion, I still suffer from fatigue, migraines, vision problems, problems thinking or reading, troubles sleeping, issues finding or getting words to my mouth when the headaches are bad, tinnitus, and thyroid issues which I think are due to the concussion. Seen one specialist, and now a few others through insurance review of my case. Hoping for further treatment. |

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |

Thanks Guys!
I was prescribed nortryptilene (spelling???) for headaches, and will go back to be reevaluated in six weeks. No idea how I did on all the tests... some I felt I was fine, others, for me, were horrible.... Would have been nice to know what he rated my results as but I guess they don't like to do that. EDIT - spelled Nortriptyline for those who want to look it up. It's a tricyclic antidepressant which is used to treat headaches caused by mTBI...

Thanks Starr. Took the meds last night, and it didn't help much. LAst few nights, the headaches go all night long withuot much relief, and tend to wake me as well. Looking forward to this medication going full force to help (I have to be weaned onto the meds, three days of less than half dose before I go to full).
As for the job, looks like they filled it with someone in house. BUT - The prof who was looking for applicants (who is also a photoshop author and my hero!) for the teaching position, loved my CV and my portfolio, so I was thrilled.... He's keeping me on file since they want to have me if there's another opening in the future! Oh yes... made myself an optometrists appointment this afternoon. My right eye is killing me and I really need to see if my vision has degraded at all....

Glad you are progressing well (it sounds like). Also very glad to hear that the professor was impressed by your portfolio! Keep us posted on how the new meds work out (hopefully better as dose increases!)
