Hi All
It's been awhile since I've last posted, and I'm still on the rollercoaster lol!! I cherish the "good days" and do my best with the "bad"...but I've stumbled upon a new "twist" to all of this.... It's a BAD allergy time here in Connecticut!!! Everyone is complaining of headaches, stuffy noses etc... Well, Monday I got out of bed after not feeling "quite right" over the weekend...I fell right onto the floor...it's not a "dizzy" feeling, most definitely vertigo..and for those of you who experience it, you know the difference! STILL not having a treating MD and not wanting an ER visit, I decided I'm going to try to manage on my own...I whip out my Allergy nasal spray, take Benadryl, Claritin, drink fluids, eat etc. etc...and here I am..Friday... I'm feeling "a little better"...but still have that nagging migraine and yes, vertigo...not to the extreme of falling...just staggering now... I'm beginning to think that maybe it's more PCS than Allergy related (which of course, scares me)...and leading me to think I may have to take a trip to the ER (which I HATE)...but if for nothing else, than to calm me...best case scenario it's allergies/sinus...worst case? I'm not going there.... Had a recent hearing after going through the Neuropsych testing...WC jumped to the very last recommendation of the PhD's report and decided that I can begin to look for per-diem/part-time employment...yes, really! And I am still in the same boat as I was the day I sustained my injury 7-21-10..I STILL have NOT received ANY treatment....the system just DOES NOT work FOR US...so I continue my fight for my care....it's exhausting... Off to the ER, playing "better safe than sorry"...please do let me know if any of you have had your symptoms exacerbated by allergies/sinus though...I'm very curious to know and I'll certainly post my outcome.... Wish me luck!!!

July 21, 2010, one month after starting my new job I sustained a concussion after standing up quickly from a sqatting position and subsequently being impaled by the corner of a metal filing cabinet in to the left side of my skull. Dx. Post Concussive Syndrome. Female, 45 years young . Mom of 3 boys (22,19,10)..Registered Nurse 16 years . Symptoms: Vertigo, difficulty concentrating, unable to multitask, fatigue, severe transient headaches..severity and location change frequently, anxiety, PTSD, tinnitus, "electrical like sensations" across the top of my head, "hot flashes", numbness and coolness to hands (worsens in A/C), very poor recall ability, processing and comprehension, difficulty finding words and completing thoughts, short term memory is awful. ~I will never give up on myself~ ~I run because I can. When I get tired, I remember those who can't run, what they'd give to have this simple gift I take for granted, and I run harder for them...I know they would do the same for me <3 |

Good Luck Julie! I lie in Ontario, and was fortunate to have a Pdoc... but only because I gave up looking in my own twon, and decided to go with my inlaws doctor in toronto, almsot and hour and a half away in traffic. It's worth it though, he is an amazing doctor, and sincce he's in toronto, he tends to refer me to the best specialists in town...
Any possibility of finding a doc in another city? KMFX for the ER trip and that you are not there for ten plus hours!

Feb 24, 2012 - Slipped on a large puddle of ice at work, hitting the back of my head. No loss of consciousness, so I assumed I'd be back at work within a few days. I was wrong. When resting, symptoms are low. With exertion, I still suffer from fatigue, migraines, vision problems, problems thinking or reading, troubles sleeping, issues finding or getting words to my mouth when the headaches are bad, tinnitus, and thyroid issues which I think are due to the concussion. Seen one specialist, and now a few others through insurance review of my case. Hoping for further treatment. |

Allergies are known to cause inflammation and create toxins in the system that are not good for overall brain health - and that's when someone has a brain that is not injured, so I believe that an injured brain is even more sensitive to the effects of allergies. That's why it's so important to keep allergies at bay.
I have had bad allergies and asthma my whole life. After the injury I sustained I was suddenly allergic to wheat and sesame seeds. It's important for me (and everyone else recovering from a brain injury) to stay away from things that cause systemic allergic reactions in them. At the very least, allergens are just another stimulus to overtax the brain and we don't need to deal with that. |
