Hello all! In the past year I've fallen and hit my chin twice. The first time was a year ago and the more recent time was about seven months ago. The first time I sustained a pretty bad concussion, the second time there was little or no concussion involved. When I touch parts of my chin its sore to the touch, as if its still bruised or perhaps fractured. Any thoughts, neurotalk?

I was assaulted over a year ago and the back of my head is still sore (to the touch).

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain. Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms. Slowly but surely regaining my life back. |

wakingback,
You may have nerves that are extra sensitive after the injury. There is a technique called ENS (electronic nerve stimulation) that can sometimes desensitize these nerves. If it is only tender to touch, you probably do not have enough problem to get the therapy. Sometimes, Botox or a nerve block can be administered to break the cycle. Sometimes, you are just stuck with the tenderness until time cures it.

I fractured my jaw in 1991, my shattered mouth was wired shut for 5 weeks. I remember the impact, could feel the broken chin bone overlap for a second. That stretched the nerve. That chin bone now has a surgical wire wrapped around it.
For many years afterwards it had a numby sensation when I ran my finger across the bottom of my chin bone, kinda felt like "zzzz", if you can imagine how that would feel. The nerve took a good 12 or so years to heal; now it's fine and not numb anymore. Yours will heal in time, I'm sure much sooner than that, but nerves do take their time. I hope your soreness at least goes away soon! Also in the same accident (bicycling) , I had a laceration on top of my head that required 7 stitches. Didn't have any concussion symptoms, buuuut maybe that explains a few things about me LOL P.S. I'm still purty, I had a great plastic surgeon! :-) ..... also, just so ya'all know I just got my nickname changed from wendro* ... Hey Mark recognize the reference?! ;-) Last edited by MommaBear; 07-02-2012 at 10:42 PM. Reason: add info |
