Default Weird Staring sensation throughout the day

I am currently sort of suffering from post concussion syndrome. I say "sort of" because I got discharged from physical therapy but I am still suffering from symptoms a little bit. Over the past two months I've noticed this weird thing has been happening. If I am driving or if I am trying to focus on something, my eyes just kind of stare at something for a while. It's a really weird feeling almost like a quick daydream and it makes me feel like I can't focus anymore. It's not like I am blacking out or anything and I am responsive whenever people are talking to me it's just really annoying. Any idea what it could be?

Hi, I felt like that for months on and off. I started to see that as one of my signals that I needed to rest and that my brain was not able to handle any more. It is a weird feeling and almost never happens now, but only after learning the hard lesson of resting to allow my brain healing time, lots of time! The brain shuts out what it can't handle. I was worried about driving like that, would not think it's safe.

Hope this helps some

Default Yes!

Whoa. I think I know how you feel. When I become mentally fatigued and can't seem to concentrate, my thoughts (though seemingly meaningful) drift to obscurity and my vision changes its mode of focus. by this i mean instead of concentrating on a specific point, I seem to see more evenly across my field of vision. It seems to be associated with daydream. Not so abnormal it may seem, but as mentioned, not good while driving. When I catch myself and try to bring back my focus it takes much mental effort. The result being i get very tired. This whole thing seems to coincide like i said with mental fatigue or too much stimulation such as loud environments, crowds or driving at highway speed.

Any thoughts?

"Blank staring" is described in the literature on post concussion syndrome (PCS) and may be associated with the "immobility response" that is part of the "fear, flight or fight" reaction to danger. When overwhelmed, the nervous system, particularly the autonomic nervous system, shuts down as a last resort.
Also, blurred vision is a very common symptom of PCS as is sensitivity to light and sound. Yes, this is an indication that you need to rest, brain, body, or both.

Actually I have had this happen a lot I end up staring off into space a lot it happened the other day while the doctor was talking to me . My wife had to shake me out of it. For the last three months when my wife is talking to me I will often be talking with her and then I just blank out while we are talking. I have also been going to the kitchen or another part of the house to do something and I forget what I was going for and I will be there for a long time I may remember what I was going for after a bit and I may not remember. I also have had the blurred vision recently not regularly but I have had it. It usually goes away

Thank you all for your posts. I thought it was just me; I have been experiencing all of these for most of my life as I experienced many concussions as a child. I have tried looking for answers over the years but the Dr’s and friends don’t understand or don’t feel there is anything going on or I can’t concentrate long enough to put the issues and questions on paper to request help (I am so glad that I found this site). I have found that as my job changes and caries more responsibility it becomes more mental (management type work) compared to physical and these symptoms are tending to get more frequent, in my case more rest seams to do little to help.

I have this too but I get it shortly after waking. Even now typing I'm foggy, dizzy and feel like I'm in a dream world. I also get into a trance like state when doing a task like making breakfast for my daughter then bringing her a dog bone. Or making coffee with milk or the best ever....leaving the house in my slippers! I'm losing (lost) my mind!

I have this too and agree that it happens when I have done too much as little as that may be. I have a service dog and it is one of the things he helps me with, he keeps me present. I also set timers on my iPhone from an app I down loaded that helps remind me to ground and relax so I come back to the present. Hilary
