Default concussion?

Hi, I was at uni yesterday, and I was getting something from my bag so I quickly bent over while sitting down and crashed my head into the desk. It hurt for a while but I was able to carry on studying with no other real symptoms. Today though I've been feeling a bit sleepy and foggy, and emotional. I don't even have a sore spot on my head, it's not tender to touch. It was just one of those things that happened. But I am worried, haven't seen a doctor for it. I've also had insomnia on and off last week which could be contributing to my tiredness as I slowly catch up on sleep. I seem cognitively intact. Thanks for your thoughts.

Welcome to NeuroTalk. There is not definitive way to say if you suffered a concussion without doing expensive testing/blood work. The best specialists say that if you hit your head, suspect a concussion. Your symptoms make it sound like you may have suffered a mild concussion.

Insomnia can also cause symptoms similar to a concussion.

Either way, the best way to treat a suspected concussion is with quiet rest. Minimize excitement, minimize sensory stimulation (audio, visual, etc), avoid caffeine, alcohol and MSG. Minimize screen time (computer and TV), especially screen time with quick moving images. Also, avoid physical exertion. 85% will recover spontaneously within a week or so.

If you symptoms continue past a week, let us know. We have more information for you.

Thanks for your response, I am feeling much better now than earlier in the day. I think I might have had some anxiety, and emotional stress that I had been bottling up and making everything seem worse. If tomorrow I am not doing better, I will most probably post again.

You are so very early in your recovery than your primary goal should be quiet rest. Try to be patient and let your brain heal. You have weeks before you enter the Post Concussion Syndrome category.

it's been over 48 hours and I really feel like throwing up, it's 11pm and I was asleep but woke up overheated wanting to throw up? I don't know if this is even related because I did eat way too much today and it may just be indigestion or something like that. But otherwise I have absolutely no other symptoms, apart from the anxiety this caused me.

Oh, and also I was in a hot room with a thick blanket on, so maybe that was the cause of it.

Okay so, an hour later and it's all but gone and I'm feeling a lot better, although I can still hear my belly gurgling around Lol. So, I'm guessing it was just indigestion from being stressed and eating too much today. Sorry to be of a worry.
