Default On top of everything else...

First my son's head gets broke, then my house gets broke, then my car breaks down, and nooowwww.... drum roll....... my job is broke. Yuppers, I just got friggin' laid off. My shift got eliminated, staff reduction. I've lost my (old) son, lost my job, now I'm gonna lose my house. (The clunker car is fixed for now at least, and the house is almost fixed with a gorgeous new kitchen, but I can't keep it!!!!!!!)

I can't WAIT for Dec. 21 to come and annihilate me... haha I wish!
How the heecckk am I gonna get my son through allll the drastic changes and moves that we now face??

I'm just a kid myself (24) and due naivety about real life issues I don't have any advice for you. I know it means little but I just want you know my thoughts are with you.

At least you have access to unemployment. My wife's UE is about to run out.

I know that UE does not make up for the previous wages.

Has your son ever applied for Calif State Disability Insurance income?

We've learned that every little bit helps. My wife has found occasional temp work to augment her UE. If she earns too much or works too many hours, it extends her UE benefits so they last longer.

What is going to happen on Dec 21?

My son was only here in CA for a month before his accident, had not worked here long enough for CA benefits. Yeah, UE isn't enough to cover my expenses, but I will look into it along with becoming a paid caregiver for my son, see if that can work out somehow.

Dec. 21, 2012 is "the end of the world" according to the "Mayan End Times Prophecy". It's the last date on their ancient calendar. Some people actually believe in it. I almost would start to believe in it now, at least for my life...

Does the state where your son lived before moving to California offer and disability benefits? His work history may qualify him for benefits elsewhere.

It is worth checking out.

I would not worry about Dec 21. The Mayans already missed it regarding their own demise.

He came from Arkansas, transferred from Wal-Mart; but had only just started getting benefits from them, so not long enough there either. :-(
