You can also boost serotonin in your brain naturally by eating foods that are high in tryptophan (a precursor of serotonin). An easy way to do it is to mix three tablespoons of ground flax seed in juice each morning and drink it.
You can also eat high tryptophan foods such as tofu, ground flax seeds, roasted pumpkin seeds, gluten flour, sesame seeds, almonds, black walnuts, and blackeyed cowpeas. The SSRIs prevent your brain from losing the serotonin that is already there (I believe), but the high tryptophan foods can actually help your brain produce more serotonin.

Thanks everyone for your input, I appreciate it.
I have continued to not take the anti depressant, its not worth it. I feel better since I stopped. I don't believe that my problems are so much depression related as they are part of the grieving process and will probably pass as I work my way through mourning the loss of me and my former abilities. I'm still not at the point where I'm ready to accept that I can no longer do the things the way I used to do. Maybe I'm a slow learner or slow to accept my new reality, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Its not even been 6 months yet and I had very different expectations following this injury.. especially since the ER doc's only advice was to not ride for a week... A WEEK. Starr |
