Default family doctor visit yesterday

Yesterday at my 6 month check up with my family doctor at Mayo Clinic she admitted that with mild concussions doctors tend to just go by standard guidelines and tend to be more dismissive than with their serious patients.

While I can appreciate the needs of those with serious brain injuries who are learning to walk and talk again it really doesn't change my own symptoms and frustrations of what I am going through.

She first told me I should be all better by 6 months. Now she is telling me there is no reason at all that I shouldn't be completely better by one year. My therapist wanted to send me to a neuropsychologist but my doctor said let's wait 3 more months and see how you are.

I tried to explain how I feel when I am pushing myself at work and start to feel overwhelmed, nauseous and feel like I will pass out if I don't go home to rest. She told me to get some caffeine when I start to feel like that and see if it will help me push through.

Should I be listening to this? Thanks for any input.

So, she wants you to add an excito-toxin to your brain.

Sounds like she is blindly throwing darts to see it one hits the dart board. The Mayo Clinic online guide says the same thing about how you should be better by now.

My doctor read me the riot act when I used caffeine to try to overcome my struggles.

A good break/nap would be my suggestion.

Thanks for the encouragement Mark. I definitely take breaks when I am attempting to work an 8 hour day but sometimes I know that I just need to go home and rest. At those times I just don't think caffeine would be helpful

I think you are spot on by listening to your body. No offense but your nuero sounds like a moron.
