Default I am nervous and scared

10 months ago I was in a car accident and one of my injuries was a tbi. Of course nothing has shown up on cat scans or mris. I thought I was doing better other than losing a word here and there and these awful headaches that feel like brain freeze. My family and friends say I am not ok. One described it as the lightbulb dims with no notice and another says the brain spark plugs need replacing. My dr and lawyer want me to see a parapsychologist. As I said, other than the headaches I feel pretty much normal, with the exception of losing a few words on a bad day. None of the other tests have shown anything, which I understand is pretty normal, but I am scared if this doctor finds nothing then I am just crazy. Has anybody else been through this?

cayla,

You should follow your Dr and attorney's advice and see a NeuroPsychologist for a NeuroPsychological Assessment (NPA). It will pinpoint your dysfunctions to a level that you currently do not understand.

When our brains get injured, we are often the last to recognize symptoms that are glaringly obvious to others. We never see the slowed timing because our brain thinks the slowed thought is normal. We might notice that sometimes, others seem to be speaking to fast and events appear to be moving faster. This is a symptom of our brain slowing down.

You need to consider your condition to be a long term condition. It may appear to be close to a full recovery but an NPA will find all of your struggles.

Concussion is not a 'tough it out by yourself' condition. It is a 'let the specialists help you if they will' condition. Be grateful for their advice.

So, get the NPA and learn about your condition. You will be amazed at the understanding that will come from it.

btw, You are lucky to have a doctor and attorney who have not discounted your current condition. Most of us have a difficult time getting others to believe us.

My best to you.

Thank you,
apparently the only one who does not believe I have a problem is me.

Default Brain

The very organ we rely the most on after an injury for self evaluation is our brains. If it is injured then that procces is skewed. Take the advice. Listen to your loved ones.

If there was a "hug" button I would have selected it for you!

Take your time, and I am glad to hear that your doc and attorney seem to be on your side! That will help.

As Mark said, take the help that you are getting, it will benefit you in the long run.

Good luck and thank you for the update.
