I actually have.

I have concerns with muscle cramps, twitches, spasms that can be felt when touching my skin. Massage therapist has noticed as well. My arms, entire back and shoulders are tight she says. The slightest touch is painful which makes massage feel like I'm being torchered. As I'm sure that's what it sounds like from the hall.

Tight knots in the muscle everywhere including my forearms.

My main concern is my arms. they alternate daily with the same pain. As the day progresses the muscles get weaker. By evening I cannot hold onto anything. My hand goes numb, cold and turns blue by bed time with pins and needles.

I had blood work done to rule out autoimmune. ANA, ESR, CBC, RH Factor all came back normal. I knew it would. X ray normal.

Gp ruled out herniated/bulging discs and is questioning Reynauds.

How should I ask these questions? You've said before about Myofascial. Does this still sound like it? and Is this a Neurologists issue?

I read some of this can fall into ataxia dx. I'm trying not to worry about it but it effects my daily life. The other day I took a clonezapam dose for anxiety and it took my arm problems away for the day. I was so shocked.

Sorry it's long but I have no idea how to shorten it.

There you go. Benzo again !!

Mist8012 : I have been diagnosed with ON, Cervical spondylosis (new Dx), Post Traumatic Vision Syndrome, Migaines, Anxiety, Meniere's etc., Tried so many meds, therapies and nothing works effectively. After a month or so I felt very bad few days ago (symptom wise - pain, dizziness etc.,) and took a bit of Xanax and all my symptoms came down to a manageable level. Weird!! I am still trying to find something without getting into Benzo...................

Wish you luck in finding something to relieve your symptoms so brain can heal.

Cheers!

My grandfather has a form of ataxia (a fairly rare form), and he has been slowly losing motor function over many years. I would guess that your difficulties with coordination, picking things up, etc. are related to the ataxia. I don't know that he has experienced it as a very painful condition, though.

ALSO, his condition is not reversible. It sounds like yours reverses and starts over daily. Once he loses a function, he never gets it back.

Mist,

You said <Gp ruled out herniated/bulging discs and is questioning Reynauds.>

There is no way your GP can rule out radiculopathy from a vertebral injury. You can have a vertebral problem that does not show up on X-ray, CT or MRI. There is plenty of research to show this fact.

A negative MRI can accompany a very symptomatic spine and a positive MRI can accompany an asymptomatic spine.

Your massage therapist may not be helping you if her massages are so painful. She may be treating the symptom rather than the cause. Are there any PhysioTherapists in your area who know MyoFacial Release?

Do you do any icing of your neck, especially your upper neck?

I can get relief from a tingling right leg by icing my upper neck just below the skull/occipital area. I put the ice pack from behind one ear to behind the other. I was assaulted with a strong slug to the back of the upper neck.

You may ask if you can get some routine light traction of your neck. My physical therapist will grab my head and while applying gentle traction, gently work the cervical vertebra. She sticks a finger in each ear for the traction and uses her free fingers to work the upper neck. Or she may just apply traction and gently rock my head.

The coincidence of developing other disorders at the same time as your assault make me think they (Reynauds, etc,) should be discounted until all other anatomical injury issues are eliminated.

Just because nobody can image an anatomical problem does not mean it does not exist.

Can you tolerate hanging upside down? Maybe just the weight of your head hanging will be enough traction. You need to be very cautious in case your head has fluid pressure problems. An inversion chair can be an easy way to try being upside down. But, be careful.

Hope you can find something that helps.

My best to you.

Mist - I also experience the twitching, spasms, and muscle cramping you mention. Sometimes when I touch my legs or head, they feel like a vibrating cell phone. It's so crazy.

Have you had a cervical mri? Did you have whiplash after being assaulted? It's been almost one year since I was hit, and I am finally going to get one. I can't believe it has taken this long, but the doctor finally suggested it during my last appointment. He thinks the twitching might be stress/anxiety related, but wants to rule out a possible neck injury. I am relieved that he doesn't suspect anything worse, but I still worry.

yes, I do have whiplash. The muscle twitches are so annoying! I asked hubby to feel the baby kick lol ...it was in my arm.

I get them every where. I told Neuro about them and he put in the report in his opinion that it isn't anxiety related and we'll speak more about it on the follow up visit.

This morning about an hour aftr waking my arm hurt yet again and my hand swelled with vibrations and it's been going on all day. I so much want to know what the heck this is! grrr

No, I haven't had an MRI but hoping Neuro will request one.

I hope u get answers. Let me know coz I'd love to hear about it

Have you done any icing?

Have you had your husband try some light traction ?

I take gabapentin to help with the twitching but when it does not stop them, the ice usually does.

Mist8012 08-05-2012 09:03 AM

I usually just do heat because along with the twitches in my arm it already is ice cold and my vibrating hand turns blue as it's the coldest part of my arm.

It helps with the vibrations and relaxes the muscles for a bit but they get back into their groove soon after. I'm afraid that I'll explain this wrong to the doc. It really is strange.

My pain woke me up at 4am this morning. Even on Amitriptyline at night didn't offer much help.

Just wanted to get back to you on this, because I'm wondering if you might have a neck injury also. I've read that neck injuries can cause symptoms like you mention - pain, twitching, numbness.

I just got the results of my neck mri and I have a herniated disc. Not sure at what level, I'll find out more at my appt next month. I'm somewhat relieved to know that there might be a fixable cause to some of my strange symptoms like vibrations and twitching, but I'm also a little bummed to know that a disc is herniated.:(
