Default Foggy Brain Upon Waking and After Eating

Does anyone else have this problem?

It seems like every time I go to sleep and wake up, whether it be for the night or just a nap, I wake up with a poor functioning brain. It seems to get better a few hours after waking up, that's if I mildly stimulate my brain with something. What seems to work the best is having conversation with someone. I'll pretty much embarrass myself at first...and then suddenly, my brain wakes up and I'm almost talking like I didn't have a brain injury.

After the conversation is over, I'll go to rest (even just sitting somewhere quietly)...and the fog will come rolling back in.

Also, I could be having a pretty decent day...and then eat lunch or dinner, then BAM, my brain fog is back again and the rest of my day is ruined.

So confusing...because I've heard from doctor's and read on here that good nutrition and rest are the best thing for an injured brain. It seems to be the opposite for me. If I don't get proper rest and don't eat 3 meals a day...I seem to function much better.

Sorry if this post is a little chaotic. I was actually feeling pretty good earlier and decided to take a 20 min nap. When I woke up...I was a complete space cadet and have been ever since.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI.

Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain.

Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms.

Slowly but surely regaining my life back.

Try a brisk walk or any mild physical stimulation. You may just need to jump start your blood flow to your brain.

Depression can also cause a foggy brain.

I have lived with foggy brain from time to time for a decade. As you say, a bit of stimulation and it usually goes away. Not a big problem.

I feel exactly like that - I can't add anymore to your post.

I'm sorry that you have the same problem as me. I thought that rest was the most important thing for someone with a brain injury...so, it doesn't make sense why it would make me feel worse. I haven't woken up feeling refreshed in months.
