Default Not in the mood?

For the past few weeks...I just haven't been "in the mood" for sex. It's weird because ever since the injury, my sex drive has actually been increased. Now, I WANT to have sex but when I get started, my brain decides it doesn't want to do it anymore. So frustrating for me and my partner.

Could it have anything to do with quitting my anti-depressant?

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI.

Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain.

Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms.

Slowly but surely regaining my life back.

Default In the mood

For me it's not medication. The headaches, backaches, neck pain, moodiness...the sum of the effects just ruins any romantic feelings that were there. However I have found I appreciate sitting very quietly and very close to my wife. It is both calming and comforting.

Libido and troubles with follow through/finishing are common to both PCS and meds. Low testosterone can also be at play. It only takes a very small amount of topical testosterone cream rubbed on a hairless body area to increase sex functions. If you rub some T cream on an area that has hair, the hair growth will increase and even become coarse. You need a doctors script for T cream. DHEA supplements daily can help your body produce T. I take 25 mgs of DHEA a day.

Thank you both for your responses.

I will most definitely be asking my doctor about this cream you spoke of.

SSRI's are notorious for causing sexual dysfunction, and they take a while to work their way out of your system.

Mark mentioned this also, and although you are a pretty young guy it won’t hurt to have your testosterone level checked. In addition to the TBI, my injuries included a pelvic fracture and there was some collateral damage to the “boys”, and I find testosterone replacement helpful. I also find Levitra helpful.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.

Anti depressants are great mood killers and they take a a while to get out of your system. Ginko biloba is a natrual herb used by the chinese for millions of years and it helps with sexual dysfunction and mood caused by antidepressants. it also helps with memory brain fog concentration and focus. you may wanna try it. Its at walgreens. 120mg in the morning. 4 steady weeks and youll see a diff.
