Default Extreme stress and TBI

Hi everyone

I was wondering what the sitiatioon is with extremes stress and TBI. I have heard that if you don't keep your minds somewhat carefree then you run the risk of damaged brain cells dying.

I am under some extreme stress suddenly - a family emergency type of thing- and i can't sleep, can't stop crying and of course my head hurts more than usual. I don't know what to do but I'm scared this is going to make me very seriously ill - I had a nosebleed last night which can't be a good a sign??

I am going to the GP for Valium after an hour's sleep last night, I doubt he will have much to comment on this situation though as its a bit out of his depth I would think. I'm at a complete loss - I'm afraid I'm going to relapse back into sleeping 3 days on end unable to say my own name.

A family emergency as well all know is stressful at any time especially when we are emotionally and physically weak.

Whilst some medication may help you and at least if you are comfortable there is one less thing for the rest of your family and friends to worry about.

On the other hand, I know it is a difficult situation to be in but you also need to be as sharp as possible to support the rest of your family when you can. The Valium may make this difficult and of course there is the weaning off process to consider.

I am not a religeous person but sometimes you think that someone, somewhere is thinking "ok now lets throw that at them and how they deal with this as well!"

Hope you find a good way through your current problems

Stress does not cause damage. It just prevents healing or returns you to your original injured condition.

You may want to try to learn the serenity prayer.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Funny you should post this. I normalY to bed really early but I can't sleep either! My mind is whirling about all the things I have posted about recently. I am not sure if I will make it financially, the mess my life has become because of this accident, dealing with the Veterans Affairs people etc... While I was laying in bed watching the news un aBle to fall asleep they said it was a blue moon and there will not be another one for a couple years so I came out to the deck to enjoy it. It really is spectacular and I guess it is right where I need to be. I hope you find peace, I hope I do too.

TBI/PTSD,

A way to deal with mental musings is to write them down and jot down some plans of action or even obstacles. Then, set them aside to deal with tomorrow.
