Default 504 Plan/IEP and school accomodations.

So basically I have been dealing with PCS for about 5 months now. The only accomodations I have ever been given for school have been the basics like more time on tests, more time on assignments, and breaks as needed. But tomorrow morning I have a meeting with my guidance counselor and my parents so we can setup a "504 plan". I'm really nervous about what their going to say, i don't want to be labeled. I don't want my teachers to think I can't handle the their work. I also don't want to change any of my classes. My question is this, has anyone ever had a 504 plan made for them? Or no someone who has? Because I could really use some reassurance right now. Thanks.

Default My daughters IEP

Your expeirence is different than my daughters. She was born with a learning disability but functions fine. She goes to colledge, works and has a child. She is also buying her first home. Oh yeah she is 24 years old. Yes the down payment was all hers.

So obviously there are differences. But after watching her go thru school here is what my wife and I learned. The 504 is to help you be successful. It is a tool that will allow you accommodations because you were injured. Its not punishment and should make it possible for school work to be successful.

It will require you, your parents and expecially the admin officials participation.
If a teacher or the admin off. does not accomadate you do not wait to demand they meet the terms of the 504. If it is a teacher go to the admin off. If it is the admin off. call the school board ASAP. The 504 is not to make it so easy you do not have to work. It also should not be too hard or you will struggle just to pass.

Think carefully and judicously, don't be afraid to ask for what you feel you need. An IEP is for 1 year and once set can not be changed. The 504 maybe the same. Remember it has one purpose to let you move forward and be successful. Good Luck.
