Hey everybody,
I was hit by a car 4 years ago and suffered a "mild" TBI, which means I was only unconscious for a couple of minutes. Mild does not describe the symptoms I had, though, over 3 years after the accident. For 6 months, the symptoms got worse: headaches, dizziness, loss of memory, loss of ability to do any mental work or retain new information, sensitivity to light and sounds, unable to listen to music, work on computer, watch tv, read. In short, I seriously lost my ability to "live." After two years, I was desperate for help, and not getting better. I tried multiple therapies, but nothing worked. Finally, I made the acquaintance of a man who had an 8-lb piece of steel dropped on his head, and was having very similar symptoms as me. He found help in a cognitive rehabilitation program, located in Phoenix. I went there and got a quantitative EEG, which basically maps your brain and looks at 273 functions. I also took many standardized tests that looked at memory, learning, etc. It generates a report that shows where the functions have been disabled, and a protocol is made to work on those areas - in fact, generate new neuron connections. Although skeptical, my husband and I went there, and the test showed damage in several locations. We made a plan to retrain my brain using their software program, and I worked extremely hard for 6 months. After 5 weeks, I felt a change in my brain - seriously! It was coming back to life. After 6 months, I retook all the tests and the results were compared to my first tests. Amazingly, all of my executive functions made huge gains, and most were back to normal. I am now working to get this program in other locations so more people can be helped. There IS hope for recovery from mild TBI! Let me know if you would like contact information. All my best!

My TBI was in late 2010, and was catagorized as moderate to severe. I'm also in Phoenix, and I received treatment at Barrows at St. Josephs. Where was your rehab program and doctor?

Glad for your recovery and thanks for providing hope and inspiration from your recovery story. Hopefully TBI/PCS will continue to be better understood and recovery options improved. This therapy utilizes quantitative EEG brain -mapping, which checks 273 brain functions to see where the problems are. It generates a report that "flags" where the problems are so they can be targeted with the therapy. This is the ONLY thing that helped me, and I have all of my cognitive function back, after 6 months of therapy. *edit* Let me know if you need anything else and Good luck!

Linda, we all here know about Neuropsych evaluations. How is this place different? Why do you not simply tell us what is the name of the rehab and the software program so we can investigate it for ourselves -- if you're "working to get this program in other locations", I have to wonder if you're here to "sell" something to us. If you're for real and not out for profit, then just tell us already instead of trying to scam us. Your story comes off more as an advertisement than personal. Are you here for business or for friendship?

You're brand new here and not known to any of us or established as one of us, so we are gonna be wary. If you really went through this, then Welcome and tell us more about yourself! We are all here for each other and you've found a great group with loads of info and help.

I had a TBI in Sept 2007. I was doing well until some months ago, I
Got a new job ,paying lots a money then in a month I was terminated. I brushed my self off and got another job . In a matter of 6 weeks I lost my job again. This time I got some very useful info.
1. my retention is bad
2. I keep asking the same question I have been told the answers to before
3. I don't take notes "believe it or not I took maybe too much", problem I noticed was my notes are very unorganized, when I try to retrieved them I cant sometime understand them.

I am currently unemployed know with 1k+ monthly house payment + son plus... and hoping and praying to get back in the work place. A friend from church offered me a job "God bless is Soul", way way way less than I use to earn, But I just might take it ,to at least pay some of my bills and not loose my house.

I can't sleep. I just started to eat after 4 days of stress and worries. Does the law protect us even if we did not tell our employer that we had TBI, but at least told and showed the scares to our team members or work buddies? I worked as a consultant and did tell my Recruiter . So the consultant company was informed or at least knew. I don,t want to sue I just want back my career or Job.

Think I have a case to at least get my job back ?
Does anyone know if there is a chance for anything for the TBI folks?

I just read your post. I am interested in what replies you get. I am sort of going through the same but my employer knows I had a head injury but WC has denied it for now and my employer has changed my job requirements to try and prevent me from coming back. I also have orthopedic injuries I am treating for. I keep seeing post about ADA and mtbi that should be considered in your case, I just dont know about SOL.
What I plan to do if I end up terminated is to contact EEOC and file a claim asap and provide work notes from neuro about their recommendations that my employer didnt provide as well as proof they changed my job description just a month prior to shoulder surgery adding a lifting requirement(I dont normally lift for my job as a rule but sometimes I have equipment that need to be assembled or shipped etc) I do believe my employer can and should be able to easily have this handled by another employee, and I think the ADA rules would suggest this too) But I dont know the legal steps and employers are usually good at covering their tracks or making it too hard to fight,

The EEOC office has some very high standards for taking a claim. It is worth a try but the first contact just causes a letter to be sent to the employer. EEOC only sues employers is very special cases. They like precedent setting cases, not run of the mill cases.

There are attorneys who handle employment discrimination cases.
