Default PCS and Back Pain? Is neurologist missing something?

Hello, I am new to this forum and so far have felt such relief from relating to others with this condition.
I was in a car accident 11 months ago. I was rear ended at an angle from the drivers side. My car suffered only $1500 in damage yet my body seems to have beared all of the impact. I went to the ER the next day and was diagnosed with concussion and have also been diagnosed with whiplash. I am 27 and have been healthy, had just backpacked on hawaii for a month before the accident. now my life has changed drastically, i cannot sit for more than 20 minutes, have extreme sacrum/pelvis pain/pressure/popping, have neck pain, difficulty breathing deep, rapid heartbeat, extreme fatigue, anxiety, and bouts of depression because my life now consists of bed and small walks and relying on my boyfriend to do almost all of the cooking and cleaning and driving. I can't take care of myself am extremely stressed because I can't work so have no money and am scared for my future.

These last 11 months have been filled with so many treatments that have not helped much. I had an mri of my head that showed nothing wrong. ive had x rays that showed scoliosis, my neck protruding forward. Theyve found a few ribs out. I've done network chiropractic, Accupuncture, energy work, medical massage, chiropractic, osteopathy, all for about 3-4 months each. and now am just seeing a physical therapist who seems to think I have issues with my vagus nerve among many many other problems. She and my lawyer said I haven't been treated correctly by our medical system and wanted me to go to a neurologist.
So I did see a neurologist yesterday after waiting over a month fr my aappointment. He did a handful of nerve strength tests, moved my neck, back, looked into my eyes with a light, and said I don't need an mri but I have post concussion syndrome and it will take 1-3 years. I am so confused! It doesn't seem like back pain is necessarily related to pcs yet he gave me no diagnosis or anything about my back. Please help?? Thank you!!!!

Healing,

I understand your frustration. Most neuros do not deal with skeletal pain very well. Did the work to correct the dislocated ribs resolve those ribs? I know how painful and disabling rib dislocations can be.

Has anybody recommended a PT who does myofacial release? It can help with muscle spasms that hold ribs and vertebra out of place.

How about DRS spinal decompression therapy? There are a variety of spinal decompression therapy systems. DRS is just one version.

Even an try with inversion therapy may help. One of the inversion chair apparatus may allow you to get relief at home and do the therapy often enough to get healing. It took me almost a year of myofacial release and gentle spinal and neck manipulation to get lasting relief.

Keep trying. There is help out there. It can be a struggle finding it.

My best to you.

I had back trouble for 40 years and an osteopath was finally able to fix it. I told him that I had a twisted pelvis and in one visit he had it fixed. OMG, I was jumping around like a little kid, unbelievable. The fix has held for ten months now, fingers crossed, and I haven't felt better in that respect. Another osteopath fixed my dislocated rib and that too is holding very well. I hope you can find the same relief I've found, you could try another osteopath, you never know. Good luck.

My wife went to see an Osteopath in 1989 she had been suffering nearly 10 years. The guys she went to see was in his mid 80's and had been practising for over 60 years. After a few minutes of manipulation she felt the same as when you slip into a warm bath. Apart from one relapse she has been fine for the last 20+ years.

I have back pain post accident. However mine is due to jarring my back and knee when I landed. Know when I walk it is a problem and this is putting extra load on my back muscles. I don't believe it is a referred symptom

Finding those skilled, rather gifted hands, is a great blessing. Those gifted hands are few and far between. I have had some experience with gifted hands, too.

Default I can relate

I was a healthy and active 26 year old that had been involved in a high speed car accident over a year ago and it was not my fault. I had a neck injury and took a hit on face and my jaw was popping on one side but was more focused on neck and all the crazy symptoms of flu, headaches, anxiety all the above for PCS (but did not know at time) I first went to chiropractor and did nothing then.

Then I had went to dentist to get some dental work done and it was on the side of head that got hit.Instantly I was in great deal of pain and could not talk or eat.I had went back to my primary doctor and they order a MRI of NECK, physical therapy, a bunch of muscle relaxers, steroids, and bed rest.

There was a waiting list for 2 months for physical therapy for local because I could not go to far because I was doing to much even getting out of bed for a hour to do PT. PT made me worse before better then we added myofascial massage with PT It helped A lot with what we thought TMJ or TMD but I took this blow to my face on that side with lock and drop.

Well fighting with the opposing persons insurance because I used all my PIP and they would not pay for anything till I settled....No way I was not even fixed or have a diagnosis! So I was forced to get a lawyer so I could get into a neurologist the MRI of head & EMG came back normal. Then neuro reevaluated me and noticed my balance was off from my walk and I had been complaning about my speech was off and my thought process was not the same plus all the other symptoms were PCS.

Then I went to get a ENG test last week and I have a severe case of PCS amongst other impairments like dementia...I had to withdraw from school because I could not remember nothing!I have to under go 5 different therapies including neurocognitive therapy!I had to sign my legal stuff over to my mother because she has her head on straight and want's me to get new lawyer.

I suppose to focus on me so when I start these new therapies I need to get myself together to climb these mountains to try to get my best results from therapy for my impairments plus a list of symptoms and other issues. I am not digesting this very well and I need to get positive to make this happen.
I am broke, have a child and my life has done a 360!But yes massage helps!
Wish you the best and if you ever need to talk I am here because I know I need to talk to someone that is going threw similar stuff as myself.Keep your head up
